@barrythrew I would argue that we are going to see new types of artists emerge that fully integrate AI into their process and push the medium in new and surprising directions. This is a pattern that’s happened many times in response to new technology.

So, the craft part of this discussion, and whether the tools are in any way value, are in many ways beside the core question. How are we going building knowledge? Has science and math succeeded in defeating humanities in having a privileged position for epistemic grounding?

The real disconnect with AI/Art is that almost all high level SF tech people prefer outsourcing their thinking. Most conversations are just folks regurgitating things other people have said, with no critical distance or new context.

@affinitybyserif as an aside, if anyone has recommendations for a program with good scopes for colour-grading, happy to invest in a stand-alone thing for that.

I've tried the trial for a few sessions of bird photos and there are too many unchangeable inefficiencies in affinity. Eg you have to specify the crop ratio manually every time. What's crazy is that users have been complaining about them for 5+ years on the forums with no change.

@emilstefx @Oddernod I used to make fun of it too - but I actually ended up using it on a recent project and it wasn’t too bad. Very convenient for comping footage you’re already generating in Blender - and more support and tutorials available than Fusion.

@bobgourley Biotech is the big one. Just the new discoveries of the last 10 years, applied aggressively, have the potential to drastically change what it means to be human.

I know there are a lot of horrible things going on in the world, and the economy is rough on many. But there are also some incredible things happening. For a net assessment we need to consider some of the huge transformational tech disruptions underway.
