8/ Working on this report was a terrific personal and professional experience. I learned a lot from the members of the committee, including @djheakin, @MayaMacGuineas, @RichardvReeves, @isawhill, @dwschanz, and those who are not on X. And working on these issues with esteemed scholars with whom I disagreed either helped me to change my views or to sharpen my views. Writing this report reinforced the value of civil, informed debate and disagreement. True progress is possible even though -- actually, because -- we often disagree with each other. The competition of ideas is fundamental to a free society.

One of the most interesting stat lines in @isawhill’s book is the Goldin & Katz study which found “that the education premium can explain 65% of the growing inequality in U.S. wages between 1980 and 2005.”
