Minister Seethakka Urges Central Intervention as Tornado-Like Winds Devastate Mulugu Forest Telangana Minister Seethakka has called for urgent central government intervention after a rare wind phenomenon resembling a tornado caused massive destruction in the Eturnagaram Wildlife Sanctuary. The unusual straight-line winds swept through the forest area on August 31, leading to the collapse of over 50,000 trees across 200 hectares, including many that were over 100 years old. The incident has also wiped out significant areas of medicinal plants, dealing a severe blow to the region’s biodiversity. The devastating winds struck between 5:30 and 7:30 PM, felling trees in a linear pattern along a two-kilometer stretch between Tadvai and Medaram villages. The fallen trees include species such as Nallamaddi, Tellamaddi, Egisa, Juvvi, Narepa, Maredu, Neredu, and Ippa, which are vital to the ecological balance of the sanctuary. The extent of the damage has left forest officials and environmentalists stunned, as they work to assess the full impact on the wildlife habitat. Minister Seethakka emphasized the importance of restoring the forest and called on the central government to provide the necessary support for replanting efforts. #Seethakka #Mulugu #TelanganaRains

Watch the aftermath: Wind Phenomenon Causes Massive Tree Fall in Telangana’s Eturnagaram Wildlife Sanctuary As Telangana recovering with the aftermath of heavy rains and widespread flooding, an unusual wind event has caused significant destruction in the Eturnagaram Wildlife Sanctuary. Approximately 50,000 trees spread across 200 hectares have fallen in a linear pattern, extending over a two-kilometer stretch. The incident, which occurred between Tadvai and Medaram villages, has left forest officials stunned and searching for answers. Rahul Jadav, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Mulugu, reported that the trees, consisting of mixed species such as Nallamaddi, Tellamaddi, Egisa, Juvvi, Narepa, Maredu, Neredu, and Ippa, were felled between 5:30 and 7:30 PM on August 31. The peculiar linear fall pattern suggests the possibility of a phenomenon, possibly caused by a straight-line winds. However, forest officials are currently unsure of the exact cause and have decided to consult with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) for further analysis. Expects so far say forest wind disturbance and destruction The interaction of the wind with trees and the processes leading to tree breakage and uprooting are complex and depend on many factors. Key Details: •Tree Fall: Around 50,000 trees across 200 hectares fell in a linear pattern over a two-kilometer stretch. •Location: The incident occurred in the Eturnagaram Wildlife Sanctuary, between Tadvai and Medaram villages. •Possible Cause: Forest officials suspect a tornado or straight-line winds but are seeking expert consultation for confirmation. •Species Affected: Mixed species including Nallamaddi, Tellamaddi, Egisa, Juvvi, Narepa, Maredu, Neredu, and Ippa were impacted. #Wind #TelanganaRains #Forest

Do we need an import to focus on our Open Natural Ecosystems (ONEs)? Don't we have the Wolf, Caracal, Indian and Desert foxes, Striped Hyena, Chinkara, Black Buck and the Critically Endangered Great Indian Bustard and a multitude of other ONE dependent flora and fauna?
Bhupender Yadav@byadavbjp

Cheetah as a flagship specie will lead to greater focus on the status of dry-open forest/savanna ecosystems and the need to restore and manage them. Cheetah reintroduction would also greatly enhance local community livelihoods through eco-tourism prospects in the long term.

@isidd1 @MilindPariwakam The wpa applies to wherever wildlife exisits. Coexistence also means co- consumption! Elephants eat crops, leopards eat dogs, wildboar eat crop and the reverse (people eating/profiting from) also possible etc.

@TruConserve @MilindPariwakam WPA or wildlife is not just meant for protected areas.. infact recent studies found that persistence of mammalian megafauna like tiger and elephant in India is related to their long coexistence there with homo sapiens and other human ancestors. parks came in last 50 years.

@MilindPariwakam Respectfully disagree with you. Why is he wrong? As far as I know Indias wpa actually violates basic wildlife management principles and inhibits the extension of wild lands beyond PAs via sustainable use as practiced globally.
