If my threads—detailed, evidence-heavy, and necessarily alarming—make even a fraction of casual scrollers feel uneasy, hit “show less,” mute, block, or report, the Grok-powered system interprets that as “regretted time” and throttles my reach. Accuracy doesn’t factor in; verifiability doesn’t factor in. Only the aggregate feelings of the broader audience do For a page as small as mine this is extremely damaging because bot farms can repeatedly report to stifle my growth, and I can verifiably prove that such bot farms or surveillance hubs are already being used to stalk me online. The overall result of the change now fully active is a built-in popularity contest that rewards soothing entertainment and punishes anything that challenges consensus, no matter how well-substantiated. In practice, this protects the status quo, shields powerful institutions from scrutiny, and ensures that difficult truths struggle to break through the noise—exactly the opposite of what a free speech platform should do. Elon Musk once said: “Freedom of speech is the bedrock of democracy, but freedom of speech does not mean freedom of reach.” Fine. But when the algorithm systematically buries voices that tell documented truths simply because those truths disturb people, we’re no longer talking about neutral “reach.” We’re talking about engineered suppression of dissent under the banner of user happiness. That isn’t freedom—it’s control dressed up as kindness.
