With a quick search, I found 200+ licensed family day care homes within a 20mile radius of San Diego, many w interesting names (see below). All are listed as licensed by the CA Dept. of Social Services. So I called 5. • One claimed they didn’t speak English after I mentioned childcare, looped in a friend to translate, then said they were at capacity with 8 children, refused a waitlist, and claimed all 8 were family members. • Two phone numbers didn’t work. • One said they have no website or application process and wouldn’t allow me to apply. • One gave me her address, which showed she is licensed by the state of CA to watch 8 children in an apartment. All of these listings appear on a site called “My Child Care Plan.” More questions than answers.
