I was a MAT team member in the 2020 election in North Carolina. For those of you that don’t know what a MAT team is, it is a bipartisan team that is selected by the County Board of Elections to go help disabled and elderly people who cannot come to the polls make their ballot choices. I was one of two people who was allowed to put on full PPE and go into nursing homes to help the residents vote. We would be in their room, helping residents voter as their loved ones were watching us through the window from the courtyard. They would be crying and holding their palms to the glass. It was the most heart wrenching experience of my life. I made it my mission to involve my entire county in making sure the residents were not forgotten. We bought their personal purchases, made blankets, bought entire themed event items, sent cards and even made sure they had penpals. Over the next 18 months, I watched many of them die of Covid being brought in from the staff, loneliness and isolation, and frankly, some just gave up. Never ever forget what Roy Cooper did to these families.

Our Department of Education in North Carolina needs to be rebuilt from the ground up. Our graduation rate has gone up considerably over our proficiency rate. In other words, while we are graduating more youth from high school, less are truly equipped to not rely on the government for handouts. (Enter socialism.) If we are not willing to address this as a problem, then our future is at risk in this state. Weakness and mismanagement for decades of the North Carolina executive branch has caused this. The Democratic Party built this system of failure and WILL NOT FIX IT. Time for a real change.
