HOW I BOOKED A MEETING WITH A CEO OF A MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR COMPANY Two months ago, I was a freelance marketer bored out of my mind in Web2. I was living on a farm in the middle of nowhere in New Zealand, rearing calves part time. Yesterday, I sat down for lunch with a billionaire CEO who received investments from @richardbranson, @reidhoffman, Facebook, and Coke. How the f**k did this happen? On day 3 of @consensus2024, I sat in the Google Cloud Startup Village, absorbing a masterclass on startup growth strategies. The Aussie Queen of guerrilla marketing, Grace Wong, shared how she grew @livenpay into a multi-billion dollar company. I was hooked. I scribbled notes furiously, trying to engrave her wisdom into my brain. When the interview finished, I took a leaf from the @tferriss playbook and forced myself to get up and ask a question. Terrified, I stood up in front of investors, founders, billionaires, and my idols in this space. But I didn't second-guess my motivation. Something deeper compelled me to rise and wait for a microphone. With shaking hands and sweat dripping from my back to my crack, I asked a question. I had zero expectations—I just wanted to put myself out there and understand more about building a valuable ecosystem around a token. Not only did @graceliven88 give unbelievable insights, she also said: "Come chat with me to learn about adding more utility to your token." The moment the masterclass ended, I ran up to Grace before she was mobbed by 10 more crypto bros like me. Surprisingly, Grace took the time to ask about @nodepay_ai and what I do for them. We spoke about sneaky marketing tactics, DePIN, and token utility. As she was about to leave backstage, I took another shot. "Could I please grab your WhatsApp, Grace?" To my disbelief, she pulled out her phone, showed me the QR code, and told me to add her. We snapped a pic together and I walked away beaming, grateful for the wisdom she had shared. Later that night, I lay in bed reliving the moment. Another thought popped into my head... So, I grabbed my phone and let one more shot fly - a hail mary. "Hey Grace, It’s Ben from Nodepay. Thank you so much for answering my questions and offering the amazing advice. Are you still in Austin tomorrow? Our team would love to set a quick meeting before you leave." My phone buzzed back. "Hey Ben, yes actually I am here tomorrow, we can do that :)" Fuck. Touchdown. The next day, Grace & her business partner met us at the Austin Hilton. They took time out of their busy schedules to discuss token utility, scaling up, and how to merge Web2 and Web3 customers with Earl, @PrinceDerrickSG, and the @nodepay_ai team. Lesson? If you want to know something - ask the damn question. You never know who you’ll end up having lunch with. Scared? Ask yourself if you could live with yourself if you walked away right now... I wouldn’t have been able to. The nagging 'What if?' thoughts would have plagued my mind for weeks. I am eternally grateful to Grace for taking the time to share her wisdom and offer advice I would’ve paid thousands of dollars for. And I just wanna make a shoutout to the Nodepay team for taking a shot on a 27-year-old Kiwi and selecting him as Head of Marketing for this campaign. It’s been a helluva ride so far, and we ain’t done yet. I will leave you with a word of advice from Grace... "Be curious & tenacious: nobody is going to just give you what you want in this world. You need to be strong enough to reach out and grasp it, and then, hold on!"
