I've seen many people arguing the point that Chud's language and antics invited him to be attacked, therefore making any self defense claim impossible. Although it's generally the case that starting a fight or being the aggressor makes it difficult to then claim self defense for the aggressor, here we have a few things to consider. First, specific to this instance and generally, are mere ever words aggression? Even if we assume a court is going to recognize "fighting words" post-chaplinsky, has there ever been a case where "fighting words" put the listener in a self defense situation? or permitted a listener to attack the speaker? I cannot think of a case or a situation where somebody could claim "fighting words" as a defense. More broadly to society at large, if Chud behaving in some sort of antisocial way permits him to be attacked and no longer able to defend himself, this is only applied to whites. Everyday we are forced to deal with rude foreigners, speaker-phone Americans, drivers so dangerous it literally does become self defense as i can only assume they are trying to kill us on the roads, and a thousand other nuisances. Why are we not allowed to claim these endless aggressions are grounds for physical violence that renders the other party unable to claim self defense, after all, they "started" it by their antisocial antics, right? If a foreigner runs me off the road, or bumps into me at Costco, is that not more aggressive than mere words on the part of Chud? I'd argue is far worse and warrants a much more severe reaction. Yet we are merely told to accept this as part and parcel of multiracial societies. This outcome was foreseeable, everybody knew it, and Dalton did it anyway, probably to prove this very point -- even if he didn't fully appreciate the gravity of it all.
