The UK already produces gas, yet bills still surged in 2021–23 because gas is priced on international markets. If more UK production automatically meant lower bills, the energy crisis wouldn’t have happened. Rosebank won’t give us US-style gas prices. It’s primarily an oil field, and the UK North Sea is a mature basin in decline. New fields slow that decline, but they don’t insulate us from global gas markets. The real lesson of the energy crisis is the opposite of what Tice claims: the more exposed we are to gas prices, the more vulnerable our bills become. Reducing gas demand improves energy security. Increasing dependence on gas does not.

🚨Miliband misled the Commons again. US gas prices are some 80% cheaper than the UK's because they produce & consume gas domestically! When will the Government grant North Sea licences at Rosebank, Jackdaw and elsewhere to increase domestic supply and bring down our bills?
