I’ve been reading Good to Great by Jim Collins. Halfway through, I realized I’m the kind of person who reads business books in bed and immediately starts comparing small nocturnal mammals to some of the design teams I most admire.

@geoff_calkins the best thing you will see today. After being banned from Brighton High, the Central High band all buy a ticket, come as the greatest student section of all time, and, when the Warriors run back an early kickoff, pull pocket kazoos & play the school fight song!

Design freelancers and studio/agency owner struggling with sales:
Let’s play a game.
Last month (July), my close rate on sales calls was 22%. That means, out of 100 people, 22 bought what I was selling. (In this case, a seat in my Make More Money group coaching program.)
I changed one thing, and this month, my close rate on sales calls is now 60%.
That change has led to 58% more revenue than last month in half the time (it’s only August 14).
What do you think I changed?
Make as many assumptions as you’d like. All guesses are welcome; no penalty for wrong answers.
I’ll post the answer tomorrow.

After an incredible run leading design at Hilton, our team was impacted by a broader restructuring. While I wasn’t planning to be on the market, I’m energized by the opportunity to start something new.

The Red Sox’s new jersey design nails the details—from Green Monster green to classic type.
A design that respects legacy and feels so fresh.

@BetterNeil I don’t know if there are rules. It’s just cool type in use that I like to take pics of.
I think that definitely qualifies.

@sakshiraturi_ I learn by doing.
This was mostly a hands-on way for me to learn more. I started with a general idea of a bold transitional serif, but not much direction initially.

@j_lloyd I second that! Good part is, it looks more balanced and cleaner than earlier one, I was comparing the current to the last one. Also this process is inspires me to take up some similar kinda self initiated project. Did you come up with a brief or plan before starting it?

@sakshiraturi_ Thanks. IT still doesn’t fit the weight and curves of the other letters but the balance and serifs feel much better.
