VOCÊ SABIA? Astaxantina é 6000 vezes mais potente que a vitamina C em combater o estresse oxidativo. O que é astaxantina e por que falam tanto dela? A astaxantina é um carotenoide natural (pigmento vermelho-alaranjado) encontrado principalmente em microalgas (como a Haematococcus pluvialis). É o que dá aquela cor rosa/vermelha característica ao salmão selvagem, por exemplo. Ela é considerada um dos antioxidantes mais potentes da natureza e o número 6000 vezes mais forte que a vitamina C, aparece em dezenas de artigos científicos, revisões e sites de suplementos. Esse valor vem de estudos que medem a capacidade de neutralizar o oxigênio singlete (um tipo muito reativo de radical livre/ROS – espécies reativas de oxigênio). Nesses testes, a astaxantina mostra uma potência muito superior comparada a outros antioxidantes. Comparações comuns citadas em estudos e revisões: - Até 6000 vezes mais potente que a vitamina C (ácido ascórbico) contra oxigênio singlete. - Até 100–550 vezes mais potente que a vitamina E (alfa-tocoferol). - Até 40–110 vezes mais potente que o betacaroteno. - Até 770–800 vezes mais potente que a coenzima Q10. Esses números são baseados principalmente em testes de extinção de oxigênio singlete e scavenging de radicais livres em sistemas livres de células ou membranas modelo. Um artigo de revisão bem citado (Bjørklund et al., 2022, no PMC) e vários outros em ScienceDirect confirmam essa faixa. - A astaxantina é lipossolúvel, atravessa membranas celulares com facilidade (inclusive barreira hematoencefálica e da retina), protege tanto a parte interna quanto externa das membranas lipídicas, e não se torna pró-oxidante facilmente. Por isso, em contextos como proteção da pele contra UV, redução de inflamação, saúde ocular, cerebral e muscular, a astaxantina frequentemente mostra resultados superiores ou complementares à vitamina C em estudos clínicos e pré-clínicos. Muitos especialistas dizem que os dois se complementam muito bem. Benefícios mais estudados da astaxantina - Proteção da pele (melhora elasticidade, diminui rugas finas). - Saúde ocular (protege retina, ajuda em fadiga visual). - Suporte cardiovascular e cerebral (reduz inflamação e estresse oxidativo). - Melhora na recuperação muscular e endurance. - Ação anti-inflamatória geral.
