This is from the catechism of the catholic church. Please take back your comment.
It's in paragraph 2010 of the Catechism. It says, "Since the initiative belongs to God in the order of grace, no one can merit the initial grace of forgiveness and justification, at the beginning of conversion."
English

Wrong. The RCC does teach that works merit righteousness.
It teaches that we do not merit “initial grace” (usually referring to infant baptism, which they believe washes away all prior sin—something that is also not biblical). However, they believe that once “initial grace” is applied, a person must maintain a “state of grace” by doing good works (typically through participation in the sacraments of the Roman Church).
In other words, you must participate in Rome’s rituals in order to remain saved; otherwise, you risk committing a “mortal” sin (a serious sin), as opposed to a “venial” sin (a lesser sin)—a distinction that is also not biblical in this framework—and losing your standing, forcing you to start over again. It becomes a perpetual cycle of atoning for your own sins weekly through the Mass.
This is why Rome teaches that the sacrifice of Christ is “re-presented” in the Eucharist. It is presented as the primary means by which believers receive grace to cover their sins through what they call the Treasury of Merit—a concept often described as a storehouse of merit consisting of the works of Christ, Mary, and the saints. Each time you participate in the Mass, you receive grace applied to your account. If you sin again the next week, you must return and repeat the process—again and again.
The Bible, however, teaches none of this.
The result is a cycle in which, by the end of life, one hopes to have accumulated enough merit to reduce time in purgatory or attain heaven.
This makes a mockery of the gospel, the finished work of Jesus, and the very concept of grace itself.
Make sense?
English

Roman Catholics: “The Bible doesn’t say that you’re saved from your sins by faith alone; it also requires good works from you.”
Meanwhile, the Bible:
Ephesians 2:8–9
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
Romans 3:28
“For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law.”
Romans 4:4–5
“Now to the one who works, his wages are not counted as a gift but as his due. And to the one who does not work but believes… his faith is counted as righteousness.”
Galatians 2:16
“A person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ…”
Galatians 3:10–11
“All who rely on works of the law are under a curse… the righteous shall live by faith.”
Philippians 3:9
“…not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ…”
Titus 3:5
“He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy…”
2 Timothy 1:9
“He saved us… not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace…”
Romans 11:6
“If it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be grace.”
John 6:28–29
“What must we do, to be doing the works of God?”
Jesus answered, “This is the work of God, that you believe…”
Acts 16:30–31
“What must I do to be saved?”
“Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved…”
And this is just a start.
The juxtaposition of faith and works—as it pertains to our right-standing before God—is painfully clear throughout the entire New Testament.
You’d have to intentionally ignore it to miss it.
We are saved by faith alone.

Dressing up for birthdays, weddings, graduations, it's all about marking that this moment is different, that it's worth the extra effort. The clothes say "this matters to me." Nobody shows up to a wedding in gym shorts thinking "the couple won't mind." We instinctively elevate important occasions.
Mass is the ultimate important occasion, we're literally standing before the King, receiving Him in the Eucharist. So if we put on a suit for a friend's wedding but whatever for that, the inconsistency feels off.
English

Serious question for all Catholics. I want to understand this.
It is in my estimation that we should be able to wear whatever we want to mass. Men should be able to wear cut offs, hats, flip flops, bathing suits, etc. Women can wear yoga pants, booty shorts, sports bras, tank tops, etc.
If you don't think we should allow that, why? Do you think Christ would care that Clarissa shows up in booty shorts and a tank top? Heck we're just glad she's there for Christ. This is all acceptable attire in normal public. So why not mass?
So if this is the case, then why should we care about modesty? Christ doesn't. If he did we'd make sure there is an enforced dress code. Why is modesty such a big thing in Catholicism? Christ meets us where we are. Does a place of worship need outward reverence, or just spiritual and internal reverence?
I want a full logical layout of anyones argument as to why this photo should not be the norm in every mass. If you disagree with that premise then I expect a good logical argument that holds up against critique.
But it seems to me based on all of the comments to Rachel's post that most Catholics agree you can dress this way for mass on any given sunday.

Si no te gusta, a llorar a otro lado, indio.

@jabernal22 @CepnikMaciej Hay varias películas (muchas) que son muy malas, pero decir que “most” “there is a need to show and portray the worst of Mexico” es caer en un grave error
Güeros
Y tu mamá también
Párpados azules
Perras
etc serian ejemplo contrario de esto

@sola_chad As a cathoiloc this isn't just an exception, we believe we are saved by faith we also believe we must cooperate. So in the case of the thief on the cross is perfect example of what we as Catholics believe.

@poperespecter1 @William_42318 @Benedicta_Bee What is the purpose of having said "bishop" doing this along with the pope?
I really don't see it.
English

@William_42318 @Benedicta_Bee No bishop of Canterbury (male or female) has been a real bishop for 200 years. Did you object when Benedict or JP2 used the term when talking to them?
