But now we're seeing student athletes leverage their platform and credibility to build enough traction that they take their content creation "pro" and keep going after school. As NIL keeps evolving, "pro sports creator" is going to become a true niche within influencer marketing

Ever since athletes have been allowed to monetize their personal brand, more and more of them have realized the potential that exists within content creation. Realistically, only a small percent of college athletes go on to play their sport professionally.

But if you're a brand trying to reach Gen Z, sports fans, or athletes, these are the creators to watch. I'll put a link to the full list in the comments if you'd like to check it out. Huge thanks to Alyssa Meyers and @MarketingBrew for featuring the list in a recent story!

All the NIL headlines focus on the superstars making millions. Here's the real story: 500k+ college athletes now have the chance to monetize their personal brand, and many of them are doing a damn good job of it. And it's not just the quarterbacks and point guards.

According to @RossBjorkAD, the next arms race in college athletics is which school can build the strongest brand partnerships arm to drive real NIL deals. That’s why just about every major program is now hiring NIL teams to generate brand partnerships for their athletes. 🧵

When people ask me what I think the future of NIL looks like, my answer is simple: we haven’t even scratched the surface. When NIL first passed, college athletes were just that… athletes. They grew up focused on training, competition, and performing at the highest level. Sure, some had hobbies, but very few were natural content creators or entrepreneurs. But what about the YouTube generation? The kids who grew up eating Cheerios in high chairs with iPads? Ask a 6-year-old today what they want to be when they grow up and many will say “a YouTuber.” The world is shifting…. it’s digital first. Quote me on this: in three years, some kids will start playing sports not just to compete but to tap into NIL as a way to build their personal brands. Look at the Savannah Bananas. Nobody knew “banana ball” when Jesse Cole first started it, but now it’s a viral phenomenon. Sports and entertainment are colliding in ways we’ve never seen before. And if you don’t get ahead of the curve, you’ll be left behind. Even now, we’re seeing it. A Clemson walk-on is using his position on the team to launch his music career. He’s even leveraging Clemson facilities and the Tiger logo… which carry an organic, built-in fan base to drive listeners to his songs. Go to his Instagram and you’d think he’s an artist first, athlete second. The future of NIL won’t just be about deals. It’s about identity, creativity, and the athletes who understand how to build a brand in a digital-first world. lnkd.in/eXnveAXu
