It’s fairly standard operating procedure for the party to back its incumbents in primaries — whether they’ve served for three decades or just a few years. The in-kind contributions from DPI reflect that state parties can send out mail at a postage discount.

The biggest change in journalists over the last decade is the growing skepticism in gov sources (for good reason). With Trump DHS repeatedly making claims easily disputed by video recordings, it just gives reporters more reason to not take everything gov sources say at face value
