Learning how to build nice and simple computer interfaces since 1999. Front-end nerd. Social distancing before it was cool.

@nilsonsfj @ymarfrenken @GergelyOrosz I had the exact opposite experience: booked an apartment, then the apartment wanted to change the conditions before the payment. I tried to ask booking for help, and they very politely said that it was not their problem, as they are just there "to provide the platform".

@ymarfrenken @GergelyOrosz On the rare occasion that things go wrong with your hotel booking (e.g. overbooking), the Booking CS team would have your back and make sure you get assigned to comparable alternative accommodation and reimbursed for it. So there's that. It has happened to me 3x over 12 years.

The dark patterns across Booking .com - and the continuous stress they create, clearly as a result of the famous Booking A/B testing culture - always left me with a bad taste in my mouth when using the site. A fix for this with a Chrome extension: alexcharlton.co/projects/booki…

🔥Why we use statements instead of questions for labelling form fields. Reasons: - less to read - the important details are front-loaded #FormsButBetter #ContentDesign

ChatGPT has changed software development! However, 68.1% of Software Engineers still don't use it. As a CTO, I'm telling my teams to use ChatGPT in their daily work to increase both velocity and quality. This is how 👇

🎩 A few people have asked me how to design these simple grid backgrounds. I’ve put together a thread on how you can do this yourself. It’s really easy. 👇🏻

Elon Musk isn't managing Twitter any differently than any other company he's managed. It's just that the entire world has a front-row seat to his disastrously megalomaniacal management style in real time with Twitter.

@lorvsso @Atlassian Yup! Let me share just another bit: around 10 years ago I started focusing more on Javascript (I started as frontend dev), and I ended up with a senior role and moved with the family to another country. I learned a lot from people smarter than me. It is indeed a funny journey.

@lorvsso @Atlassian I had a similar experience and even though I moved from coding to a more management position a few years ago, I saw myself in your tweet. Self taught is not easy, but it's fun, as you can learn at your own pace, and focus on what you like the most (or it's payed the most ;)

@annaecook can you review this design treatment please (video alt: the button is position fixed and overlays almost the entire viewport as the web site scrolls in the background)

@adamwathan For me the penny dropped when I realized CSS (and perhaps BEM in particular) was asking me to make premature abstractions. It's something we're told to never do in software engineering, but somehow we ignore it for CSS.
