Editorial: Jon Kudelka was a scientist and that method was in his cartooning. His horror at the world was a horror at the abandonment of facts and reason. Years working for a right-wing newspaper had made his jokes subtle and a little sly. satpa.pe/yscsR14

@AntonyGreenElec I detest the wording of "won on preferences from second place", it's how the United Kingdom's campaign against AV framed it. I prefer "seats won from first preference majority", and "seats needing preference distribution".

Kudos and respect to Paul Keating , the only living PM who refused to accept an AC because he believed that honours should be reserved for those whose work in the community went unrecognised and that being PM was significant public recognition. Definitely not a cosplay PM.

Trump just threatened Apple with a $22 billion tariff: He gave them 2 options: Bring production to America or pay the price. When they refused, Trump did what he had to. Here’s the $600+ BILLION power play no one saw coming: 🧵

@Mollyploofkins @broomstick33 Watch as Harvard steps up to establish off shore campuses- Canada, EU, etc and the funds will flow with them. So many British and Australian universities have done this to reach student demand.

Been overwhelmed by all the love I’ve received here, on the streets, in supermarkets & wherever I’ve gone this past week. This was my acceptance speech & it was all about my gratitude to Australia but of course had cricket mentions & my take on what it means to be Australian

NEW: Purdue students demolish the Guinness World Record for fastest Rubik’s cube-solving robot, solving the puzzle cube in just 0.103 seconds, faster than the blink of an eye. Insane. The previous record was set by Mitsubishi Electric engineers in 2024 in Japan with a speed of 0.305 seconds. The team says they can probably go even faster, but the cube is the holdup, considering it will "disintegrate" if they go faster. They say they had to reconstruct the cube with stronger pieces so it could handle the machine.

@tezzig1961 @RIGPIG888 @6NewsAU The same way a 40 or 55 yro does. Seek preselection when vacancies arise in the party ticket about 6 months before election is called. Lobby state party branch preselection committee members. And await outcome of preselection rankings. She was 3rd on ticket so wasn’t expected.

@john_macgowan @1micky_v @KosSamaras Those polls had high levels of uncertain voters. Also polls that indicate who would have been PM in any particular week that is not sampled whilst in the middle of a election campaign are meaningless. Campaigns are fundraised intensively for a reason.

@1micky_v @KosSamaras I don't think you understand polls if you think 4 months of a consistent lead is just idle dissatisfaction. Had the election been on Australia Day, Peter Dutton would be Prime Minister.

It will take a decade and sweeping reform before the Liberals have any serious path back to power. Here is why. To win in 2028, the Liberals and Nationals need to pick up 33 seats. Only 16 of those seats are held by Labor with margins under 6%. By 2028, another 700,000 Gen Z voters will have joined the electoral roll and the Coalition currently wins just 1 in 5 of them - on a very sunny day. By 2028, only 25% of all enrolled Australians will be Baby Boomers or older. On May 3rd, the Coalition lost at least 12 seats they didn’t even have on their danger list. Instead, they burned millions chasing seats that are now safely Labor with double-digit margins. This is what happens when your data is catastrophically wrong, you end up exposed, and facing an existential crisis. The difference between good and bad intel can now be measured in how many electoral cycles the Coalition has to wait before they even get close to winning. Very costly. This linked yarn is worth a read if you have a sub. afr.com/politics/feder…

The Harris Farm Ring is a great marker for true Sydney. Living anywhere outside of this condemns you to a bug-life where you exist as an economic unit with a primary purpose of increasing the value and livability of the Harris Farm Ring. Saving grace is you might get a cute transport system, fast food outlet or 'dining district' (read: Westfield) that lets you pretend you don't live in the Harris Farm-less wildlands.

No new updates (sorry!), but I've tried my best to present the distribution of preferences in Calwell in a visually appealing way - Plus a few pointers on what the numbers mean. If the Liberals fall from the top 2, Labor could be in trouble in traditional heartland 5/ 🧵

The site for this distribution is live for any election nerds who want to follow. I'll also do live updates of this distribution in the replies of this tweet since the winner here is still up in the air! 1/ 🧵 aec.gov.au/election/fe25/…
Maggie Perry@Maggie_Perry6

Forget this "Coalition breaking up" news, the real news is that an official site on the distribution of preferences in Calwell will be created today, with live updates. With such a messy result, a distribution will be needed to figure out who's 1st (and 2nd, and 3rd, and 4th...)
