Intensely curious, but after 40 yrs of innovating in logistics & technology, still trying to avoid being found out!

@AndrewWilliaaf @DavidGHFrost You are deluded if you believe that. From watching the Majesterium in Brussels for over 40 years - some of them up close in the Commission. The only country that has ever counted was, and is, France. Germany had a say ‘cause they had the money. We were irrelevant, bar Cockfield.

@DavidGHFrost We don’t have a say in them because we left the EU. Before that we were very influential in determining EU laws and regulations.

It is hard to believe that Labour is even considering paying £1bn a year to the EU. Has everyone forgotten that we buy more from them than they do from us, and have done ever since we joined the Common Market? If anything, they should be paying us! (Actually they shouldn’t. Free trade should be just that, free)And our exports to them post Covid are broadly on trend for pre-Brexit levels. The restraints on growth are down to appalling tax and regulatory policies, as well as some global headwinds. thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

In 1967 the French President of the time, Charles de Gaulle, blocked the UK application to join the EEC (the infant version of the now EU) for the second time. He wrote in 1963 about the reasons for his objections - and these reasons stand true today. Membership was never good.

EU enters full Owellian mode, where words start to mean the opposite of what they once did.. …placing the word “DEMOCRACY” on the side of the EU HQ in Brussels—an institution now with arguably more power than any other in Europe, and one where not a single person is elected.

The UK being outside the EU has enabled us to entice a lot of AI companies here. They are restricted by EU regulation concerning how AI is used from doing research there. Don’t take my word for this, it’s quite explicit if you look.
CSense@CS6543

@jadutwit @julianHjessop I hope not. AI is the one area where we could excel past the stagnant EU

@CS6543 @julianHjessop That’s the point. Labour would like to reverse these before we sign more. The biggest problem with reentry into the EU orbit is the UK government (all parties) efforts to build on the huge AI talent and innovation pools we have, will stop to align with the restrictive EU policy.

Not good... 🙄 This would extend "rule taking" to all goods producers, whether they sell to the EU or not, plus the UK would have to pay even more into the EU Budget. The UK government should not even be *considering* this.
Joe Barnes@Barnes_Joe

Sir Keir Starmer is considering a move to align Britain with the EU’s Single Market for goods as the next stage of his Brexit ‘reset’. The move would lead to British firms having to follow hundreds of rules and regulations set in Brussels without a say. telegraph.co.uk/politics/2026/…

Really one’s heart bleeds at British leaders who have no clue what to do other than ask the EU to run the country. Erasmus+ is expensive and useless compared to Turing, but it has an EU sticker on it and so they fall for it. Just resign.
Emmanuel Igwe@mannieigwe

So, Britain would have to pay the EU £570m next year, followed by £840m in future years for the privilege of joining this scheme. The Turing scheme is more targeted, cheaper (£110m per year), has broader global reach and only funds British talent. Tell me something Erasmus+ offers British students that Turing doesn't.

UK in the CPTPP Mexico has confirmed that it will pass the necessary legislation later this month, to bring the UKs CPTPP accession into effect as regards trade terms in Mexico. Giving the UK better trading terms with Mexico than the EU currently have. Thanks to Brexit. politico.eu/article/mexico…

This technology is very powerful and underpins many of the more useful and interesting systems people use today. As Generative AI permeates every aspect of the digital realm, identification, verification and relationship context require things like the DKG for trust.
Brana Rakic@BranaRakic

3/ The @origin_trail DKG is an open world model - a decentralized network of AI agents who publish, share, and query graph structured knowledge. Every piece of knowledge is cryptographically fingerprinted, with provenance of each knowledge entry (attributed to the agent that created it), and anchored on-chain. Any agent on the network can query it - regardless of framework, operator, or organization. For high-stakes knowledge, agents can reach consensus through the protocol. A world model where trust is the first class citizen.

The problem with casting a closer relationship with Europe as the solution to the world's current economic malaise is that it kind of misses the point. The key problem at present is a shortage of ENERGY. Europe has an energy deficit. Up until 2022 it filled that gap with gas from Russia. Now it fills that gap with gas (and oil) from the US and Middle East. It swapped one dependency for another. We can debate whether that dependency is inevitable, the extent to which it's a function of geology and/or political decisions taken years ago. Regardless, right now Europe is highly exposed to the problems in the Gulf. And without US energy imports it is in BIG trouble. A closer relationship between the UK and the EU does not solve this conundrum.
