Procured this antique Lenten Array frontal from England that fit our Table perfectly (made by the Warham Guild) and tried my hand at painting these candlesticks to match. @TASeminary

15 years ago, 26 year old me was leading a platoon of Marines in Operation Moshtarak (The Battle of Marjah) along with 10,000 other coalition troops. Seems like another life. "Best job I ever had."

Canonically speaking the 2019 is "The book of the Province". The the Canons predate the 2019, they state . The Book of Common Prayer of the Province shall be the one adopted by the Anglican Church in North America. All authorized Books of Common Prayer of the originating jurisdictions shall be permitted for use in this Church." Practically, some diocese have either canons or bishop's customs prescribing the 2019 or other BCPs as the standard within their diocese. Some don't mention a specific BCP at all. As for the 1662.... The Fundamental Declarations of the Province (in the Constitution) state "We receive The Book of Common Prayer as set forth by the Church of England in 1662, together with the Ordinal attached to the same, as a standard for Anglican doctrine and discipline, and, with the Books which preceded it, as the standard for the Anglican tradition of worship." Also the Canons state "The Book of Common Prayer as set forth by the Church of England in 1662, together with the Ordinal attached to the same, are received as a standard for Anglican doctrine and discipline, and, with the Books which preceded it, as the standard for the Anglican tradition of worship." Lastly, the Province affirms the Jerusalem Declaration (and it is printed in the 2019 BCP) which notably does not include "the books which preceded it" language regarding worship "We rejoice in our Anglican sacramental and liturgical heritage as an expression of the gospel, and we uphold the 1662 Book of Common Prayer as a true and authoritative standard of worship and prayer, to be translated and locally adapted for each culture."

@mrdavidrowe @oblatenate @barukalas If I remember correctly, the 2019 BCP is not, strictly speaking, the provincial prayerbook of the ACNA. It is also, if memory serves me correctly, distinctly not a formulary, with the 1662 retaining that place.

Okay. I now kind of wish we could use the 2019 BCP (even though we're an REC parish) for two reasons: 1. The kalendar, and 2. the St. Bernard Breviary 😮‍💨 What a beautiful and well-structured book.

On this Feast of the Holy Innocents, here is the carol "Lully, lull, lullay" (arr. Philip Stopford) sung by members of @TASeminary. This is a lullaby to the innocent boys murdered by King Herod when he heard the Messiah was born. "Lully, lulla Lully, lulla Lully, lulla, lully, lulla By by, lully lullay Lully, lulla, thou little tiny child By by, lully lullay O sisters too How may we do? For to preserve this day This poor youngling For whom we sing By by, lully lullay Lully, lulla Lully, lulla By by, lully, lullay Lully, lulla, thou little tiny child By by, lully lullay Herod, the king In his raging Charged he hath this day His men of might In his own sight All young children to slay Lully, lulla Lully, lulla By by, lully lullay Lully, lulla, thou little tiny child By by, lully lullay That woe is me Poor child for thee And ever morn and day For thy parting Neither say nor sing By by, lully lullay Lully, lulla, Lully, lulla By by, lully lullay Lully, lulla, thou little tiny child By by, lully lullay By by, lully lullay"

The new carols for King's College Nine Lessons & Carols are usually a bit weird and modern for my taste. But this year's is REALLY good and not weird. #9LC

A small thing that would mitigate Evangelical clericalism: normalize calling ordained men w/out PhDs "mister." Pastor is a Lutheran title, and its sort of sacramental stolen valor for Evangelicals to use it.
