The Indian Government takes STT money from every single trade – you win or lose.
Around 90% of retail traders lose money in the market. But the Government gets its cut from 100% of them. It doesn't care if you make money or lose it all.
FY 2023-24: Collected around ₹34,000 crore STT.
Last year (FY 2024-25): Collected about ₹53,000 crore STT
After the recent hike, next year's budget (FY 2026-27) expects around ₹73,700 crore
