I think Twitter is real life in Dan Goldman’s district which is why he’s losing by more than 30 points so it depends on the district. Torres district is older Black ppl like Jeffries district, which is why it was smart for Mamdani to abort Osses attempt to challenge Jeffries and not rlly field a challenger to Torres. It’s interesting that Espillato’s seat is going to be close

@jainhugs You think he’s winning by that margin because he stopped tweeting?

@shannonrwatts No he would’ve won anyway but the leftists are not as motivated to try to challenge him w a serious contender bc he’s actually been out here defending Mamdani by introducing legislation to combat “Islamophobia” and has basically stopped tweeting about Israel twice daily.

The redistricting thing was smart by Newsom, and consequential, there's just no particular evidence that he swung the polls much on it as it was popular in a very blue state pretty much from the moment that voters were aware of what the ballot initiative did.
Neera Tanden🌻@neeratanden

Politics is about making an argument - and Newsom just moved California 20 points on the redistricting initiative, an initiative that was running behind or even, depending on the poll, when it started. Newsom launched, fundraised, and messaged the hell out of the initiative and it won a landslide victory, changing a lot of minds. Being able to persuade people, even unruly Dems, is an achievement in politics.

@NateSilver538 @senderowiczj Also Newsom is more charismatic than Kamala but it’s not like he has Obama or Mamdani type charisma. He gives greasy oil salesman vibe & is not likeable, unlike Mamdani who despite how terrible his policies & how obnoxious his supporters, I can’t get myself to dislike the guy

I'm trying to avoid too much confrontation on Twitter these days but it's probably worth asking yourself whether these testimonials to Newsom's electability come from people who thought Kamala Harris and the 2024 version of Joe Biden were strong candidates.

@shannonrwatts Hasn’t he toned it down though after Zohran won and after the Adam Friedland show? He used to be obsessively tweeting about Israel and now u look, it’s barely there lol

He will be incentivized to satisfy left wing groups in the primary bc they perceive him as moderate whereas aoc or mamdani have greater room to moderate since their leftist credentials are super. AOCs incentives in the primary would be to try to show she’s electable by moderating & Newsoms incentives r the opposite

@RishiRamaraju @mattyglesias Pure anecdote, but I feel like I've heard growing pro-Newsom chatter among conservative normie friends, which I assume is partly his gigachad phenotype, partly a growing public recognition that he is more moderate than California's reputation would suggest.

I believe Dan Zak did one profile of me in the Washington Post in 2023 and that’s it. There have also been two big leftist takedown pieces that I recall. But if your premise is that the centrist borg is incepting constant Yglesias profiles you are mistaken.

@JBKSchlossberg @MicahLasher It is true that Bloomberg paid for ads calling Mamdani a terrorist essentially but I think Bores and Lasher would still be better than you. I think Bores is the best choice

You know what’s not cool ? @MicahLasher taking $10 MILLION in dark money from the same people who paid for: 1) RACIST fliers altering Mayor Mamdani’s facial features 2) ISLAMOPHOIC TV ads attacking the Mayor as “dangerously inexperienced” Not cool nytimes.com/2025/06/12/nyr…

@jbarro I dont follow national politics just nyc local politics but I don’t understand how ppl claim Mamdani selling point is he’s “authentic”. He’s one of the most disciplined politicians I’ve seen. He is an incredibly good professional politician and it’s a shame he’s so left wing

@jainhugs @IAPolls2022 Mamdani has already endorsed Lasher and Lasher has hired Mamdani's campaign team to run. It was an deal right after the primaries to get a few moderates on board with Mamdani. Both Nadler and Lasher endorsed Mamdani and he is now returning thee favor

@daveweigel It’s a lil crazy that Goldman refused to endorse Mamdani in the general while NY 12 candidates where Mamdani was a lot less popular (Nadler at the time and both Lasher and Alex Bores) endorsed him.

@xHaustedOfStats @IAPolls2022 If I were Alex Bores, I would try to get Mamdanis endorsement and just try to consolidate the left. Lasher is the favorite so Bores needs to take a risk here if he wants to win

@jainhugs @IAPolls2022 All I am saying is that Mamdani's approval has bumped up in areas like this because he is now seen as a typical Dem mayor rather than an existential threat

@jainhugs @IAPolls2022 He just about won it in the primary I think it was 50.2-49.8 in final tabulation Certainly isn't Mamdani favorable land

@jainhugs @IAPolls2022 I mean, it's NY-12 The overall electorate wouldn't be significantly different than this here Not to mention that it was one of his worst districts in 2025 primaries

@TweetBenMax Did Mamdani win NY 12 Dem primary in the mayoral race? He lost the general but his high approval rating among primary voters makes sense because the general included Rs as well? I wasn’t expecting him to have a 66% approval rating in NY 12 among Dem voters
