@williamcbrennan The conversation, apocalypse now, TGF 1 and 2. I love Coppola but fear this is the most impressive run of movies/years.

@vanillaopinions Crazy thought but … don’t be an assh*le. I’m not religiously observant but I know people, my 88 year old mom for example, who pray every day. It should be possible to be an atheist without being a jerk, though many atheists seem to find that a major challenge.

Is This Thing On? is almost cosmically a bummer of a movie, not only is it about a marriage falling apart, the husband then finds solace in stand up comedy

@NegroLibre1 A move that damages the country to protect your family is a bad move. I think it’s incredibly unserious to not be able to understand that

This is one of those decisions that I actually thought was not only the right call, but that a lot of Biden critics were completely unprepared for what was coming with Trump 2.0. Anyone who sees what's happening now and thinks it was a bad call is unserious to say the least.

Looked into this Backrooms thing. Blender? No thanks. Are movies really just computer-generated slop now? The death of art.

People who know nothing about NYC, like @mattyglesias , and who just sort of wander by every once in a while to snark at people who do know something, will think, whatever, who cares. But MSG is a highly regulated company at the state and local level and the payoff for them to do legal "favors" like this for state and local officials is high. Caesar's wife and all that.

No, make buybacks illegal as they effectively were prior to 1982 This system of stock buybacks is about the purest demonstration of value extraction and redistribution to enrich already-wealthy shareholders
Americans For Tax Fairness@4TaxFairness

BREAKING: America's biggest corporations have spent $4.8 TRILLION on stock buybacks since Trump cut corporate taxes in 2017. Worker pay isn't keeping up with inflation. Costs are skyrocketing. But executives are getting richer and richer. Raise the tax on stock buybacks.

@Acyn And exactly what is the point of 13 versus 9 versus 73 versus 195? Why do you need 13 people to decide the constitutionality of some question? You don’t. What you want is the extra people on your team for as long as they can be on your team. Why? To seize complete control.

Buttigieg: Nowhere in the Constitution does it say that there have to be nine Supreme Court justices. That one doesn't even take a constitutional amendment. It just takes a readiness to set up a court that fits this country.  We could have 13 seats matching the district structure of the federal judiciary, but also a process that makes it less partisan. We cannot have partisan warfare every time there's an opening on the court

@Acyn This is actual totalitarianism. Destroying institutions so you can get your way is what all strong men do. They all couch it as being “a man of the people” as they turn citizens against one another by stacking the decks

Maybe a hot take? but we are in a pretty good place right now on this. Zuckerberg is correct The world’s richest people are chasing things that genuinely would improve humanity. Space colonization, medicine, scientific breakthroughs I have no doubt the slopulists will paint this stuff as somehow terrible, but the facts are the facts
No Priors@NoPriorsPod

Mark Zuckerberg wanted to cure, prevent, and manage all diseases by the end of the century. He and Priscilla then had a series of meetings where Nobel Prize-winning scientists laughed at them. Now Zuckerberg says, "I thought that by the end of the century was a stretch. Now I think it's too conservative." Full episode linked in replies.

Huh, I was told this simply wasn’t possible for like three full days. It turns out we actually do have the technology to divide one number by another number and utilize direct deposit. Crazy.

Capstone, the company that financed ‘OBSESSION’, is estimated to make $45M - $50M from the film after its success. They will share this with the creative team, including director Curry Barker. (Source: thewrap.com/creative-conte…)

@RaveBabyBecca @TheWillowWay69 It’s honestly an interesting question if you were really thinking about it. Is the labor on this film worth more? Is the labor on a film that loses money worth nothing?

Rave Baby Rebecca Esq. says stream Grace Womack
@TheWillowWay69 So you’re saying it was always possible to split the profits with the people that made the film, it’s just that there is a certain group of exploited workers locked out of the surplus value of their labor? We, as a society, should fix that maybe.
