Where is Charity Kaluki Ngilu? She was first elected as MP representing Kitui Central in 1992. In 1997 she was re-elected and vied for president and came forth. She became the first woman presidential candidate in Kenya. In 2003- 2008 served as minister for Heath, 2008- 2013 served as minister for Water and Irrigation and 2013- 2015 served as minister for Land, Housing and Urban development. 2013 vied for senator but was defeated and 2017 vied for Governor, Kitui and won. I hope she is doing fine.

I will talk about our elders and the misuse of culture and customs for political mileage. Specifically the ones who appear every election period. Right on schedule. Before an election. In full regalia. With a ceremony. At KICC. With cameras. Senator Karen Nyamu has been bestowed the Nyakinyua title. At KICC. With elders from Aberdares and Mt Kenya. Who also endorsed her 2027 UDA bid in the same ceremony. The same ceremony. The cultural validation and the campaign launch happened simultaneously. Our ancestors are being used as a campaign manager. Nyakinyua is a sacred institution. Women who have earned the right through age, wisdom and community service.
