@JPHilllllll Does progress need to stop because people who stopped learning in their 20s deserve to go home and watch Netflix and play video games instead of spending 1-3 hours a day learning how to use AI?

It’s just a weird sickness at some point, this level of greed. You have $200 billion dollars. You could wipe your ass with $100 bills and keep getting richer every day. Why kill thousands and thousands of jobs at this point?
More Perfect Union@MorePerfectUS

Jeff Bezos has begun the process of raising $100 billion for a new fund that would buy up manufacturing companies and then use AI to automate production.

@ItsNewYokio I just removed it from my Steam wishlist after seeing how mixed the reviews are. Can't do clunky controls/movement. The world is way to large for my interest as well.

@tenobrus Why follow in the footsteps of the masses who will fall victim to automation in the AI era? If you’re not already out of the rat race and acting like everything’s normal, you’re behind.

now this starts to feel like more interesting commentary to me. at white collar jobs there's a lot of implicit pressure to grow the fuck up, because you're exposed to peers who manifestly have their shit together. used to be lower class people would have a kid and community members would push them to get their shit together too. older coworkers even at dead end jobs, church and other local communities, etc. but if these days the 27 yo teenagers working retail aren't having kids and basically have no older peers with their shit together in any meaningful way, what incentive do they have to do anything but keep watching the same anime in discord calls? who are you feeling social pressure from?

Lately, whenever I open this app and see the latest tricks, and hacks, and notes, and workflows, and spec here and skill there, I can't help but think: All of this will be washed away by the models. Every Markdown file that's precious to you right now will be gone.

The amount of woman in NYC is becoming overbearing and its hitting a point where its a negative. Women outnumber men 65-35 in NYC, I cant go to the grocery store without being stared at, they come up and touch me without permission. Its violating, i dont consent to any of this. Bars are even worse, I just want to chill and drink with my boys, but its impossible, theres just not enough guys to go around. Girls will constantly try to butt into our conversations, offer to buy us drinks, get sexual right away. None of this is wanted. Go away. Just leave us alone you heathens.

@MlNESWEEPER This happens often with @DOTA2. Plenty of bug reports get noticed on Reddit and fixed in the next day. Of course it’s also made by valve.

@DudeWhoInvests They stopped just filling the bag with fries 🍟 now it’s measured and proportioned. You used to be able to find a whole extra order of fries in the bag that didn’t hit the cup. Now just cup 😅

What would you say about government/healthcare that is slower to adopt AI due to PII risk or politics? I’ve been using Claude for my personal life for 2 years now, and I’ve been promoting it at work. Recent politics have ruled it out. I don’t hate ChatGPT or codex, but they’re not part of my current workflows. I also don’t know how long shopping around for AI will take, while things keep rapidly evolving I am limited to “legacy” AI chatbots at work while coding agents take over. I’m afraid the skills I was hoping to build are becoming irrelevant too quickly to stay. I’m afraid that the “job safety” i have is costing me career opportunities 2+ years down the line. I was worried that I was falling victim to LLM psychosis, but after showing friends Claude they’re sharing similar feelings.

How often did the printing press hallucinate its output? I don’t see hallucinations as nearly as often as when I started and these days its usually due to a lack of context in my prompt, but I want to believe the line of work I’ve identified with my entire adult life will exist in some form by the end of the decade.

A friend just exhausted their Claude pro subscription and had to upgrade to max. I don’t have the heart to tell him he needs to start over halfway through his prompt to save on token. Or that the app he’s working on needs a database and a server for it to run on. And auth so randos can’t login to his site.

@Jonathan_Blow Does game dev have open source libraries like web dev? Is the lack of overlapping open source game libraries/projects the reason that AI is lacking compared to handling CRUD apps?

@MacPlus_87 @DFEmme42 @thejobchick It should be on the prompter not the model. Unless the model was trained on biased recruitment that sidestepped the law on age based discrimination.

HOLY F: Workday just lost the argument that matters most. A federal judge said their AI hiring tools can be challenged for filtering out applicants over 40. “The algorithm did it” is NOT a defense. If this holds… every company using automated hiring just stepped into legal risk. You’re not crazy... if you’ve applied to 50, 100, 200 jobs and heard nothing… The system itself may be filtering you out. The decision means the plaintiffs may continue pursuing claims that Workday’s technology had a disparate impact on applicants age 40 and older. - SHRM Judge Lin dismissed some California claims and one disability claim, but gave plaintiffs until March 27 to revise and refile.

I had a friend ghost me for six weeks after telling him to download Claude and pay for max. I thought he was mad. He got back to me today to thank me before I had to name drop Claude code. Ten minutes later, he prompted a front end for an app he can use for his business. I don’t have the heart to tell him he still needs a database, container and VM to host it.

The stories of "whoops, we HAVE to spend $10 trillion on AI data centers, so now we HAVE to fire 98% of our workforce seem so stupid. Did you just want to fire all those people? Do you really HAVE to build AI capability? Did you not foresee this? It's nuts

im fully convinced that LLMs are not an actual net productivity boost (today) they remove the barrier to get started, but they create increasingly complex software which does not appear to be maintainable so far, in my situations, they appear to slow down long term velocity
