@isaacmorehouse That already happened: the dark web.
Then moreso w Web 2.0: walled gardens.
“Localized and partitioned intranets” are already taking over: people are preferring group texts, discord servers, etc. to what’s left of the open web.

@marknorm It is if you’re an alcoholic.
Congrats! Do again tomorrow!

@james_deas @grumpyesq Genetic correlation is different than a normal correlation: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetic_c…

Genes associated with sexuality & reproduction also impact a range of other traits. These outcomes are particularly interesting for genetics because they show a snapshot of natural selection 🧬

@dr_appie @grumpyesq I think my confusion comes from the word choice “genetically correlated”, as if that’s a statistical function.
The fact is they are correlated. The “genetically” component isn’t expressed in this chart.
Right?
English

@james_deas @grumpyesq That is also true, I think he was asking about the direction of the correlation
English

@dr_appie @grumpyesq I thought blue (more complete circle) is just showing they are correlated genetically.

@Breanna_Pacheco @JoopsMiranda @hubermanlab Is your room warm? Get it down to 68f or lower.
Are you going to bed w stress from the day or anxiety about tomorrow? Maybe more of a “shut down” routine after work (see cal newport) or a “wind down” routine in the hour before bed

@flowidealism The same analogy for other disorders works, and is just as unhelpful. Does my forgetful baby have Alzheimer’s?
You wouldn’t roll your eyes at a parent treating their child’s diabetes. Claims about a disorder’s prevalence from one not familiar w the medical science = noise

Someone once noted that the symptoms of ADD are similar to the symptoms of childhood. We pathologies (and “medicate”) so many children unnecessarily.
rebelEducator@rebelEducator
It’s normal for kids — especially small boys — to be restless, rambunctious, and loth to sit still. It’s a sign of *health* to be full of energy. They don’t need to be put on drugs to fit a boring education system. The system needs to change to fit them.

There is a growing awareness that the mental health problems of Gen Z were caused by 2 interacting factors: loss of childhood independence, and getting on social media in middle school. Here's a summary of the independence thread. Please visit and support letgrow.org
Holly Korbey@HKorbey
New from me: Researchers are beginning to ask if a lack of childhood independence plays a role in the mental health crisis. "Today’s 18-year-olds are like 12-year-olds from a decade ago. They have very little tolerance for conflict and discomfort." kqed.org/mindshift/6062…

@isaacmorehouse GPT on what signals will continue to be hard to “fake”
..though I think it’s wrong/lying.
- It does have access to internet
- it could be far more creative than humans (see stablediffusion)
- “emotional intelligence”, I think the bar is pretty low, i’ll take what i can get!

@noxlucens @Carnage4Life Kind of a relief! Nagarjuna = the ultimate conversation stopper 😅
English

@noxlucens @Carnage4Life We've been at it for 45 mins... To it's credit, the responses have been consistent. Buddha 👍, Nagarjuna 👎

English

@noxlucens @Carnage4Life Can't tell if I'm "not getting anywhere" or if giving non-answers is how GPT admits defeat 🤔

English

@noxlucens @Carnage4Life Hmm... I think we're talking about different kinds of "existence" here.
