Definitely one of the worst feelings seeing someone struggling to work on your designs because of poor tool clearance.
Can’t imagine designing without doing both of those things. I think you can’t be a great designer without having empathy for the people who assemble, install, and maintain your designs throughout their service life.

Make no mistake, I'm all for custom, purpose built tools when a design requires it.
But if you are producing products that will be worked on by folks with a normal (or limited) set of tools, you need to be aware of that.
Best ways to guard against building something impossible to assemble or work on is:
1) attempt to assemble it virtually, thinking through how you'd do it each step & researching what tools are commonly available
&
2) actually build the thing yourself
Amazing how many times I rethink hardware choices when I need to get a tiny screw way down in a hole or can only clock a wrench 15 degrees because of clearance issues.

This brings up a great point: If you're not thinking about tool clearance (and the required tool for the job) while designing your products, what are you even doing?

@CalebChamberla6 Funny that it sounds a lot like the renting vs buying debate for home ownership lol, thanks for the insight

@jamesbambridge_ Long term, return on investment IS better if you buy vs lease, but you can't ignore the opportunity cost of not iv eating those dollars in growth of your business.

Counterpoint.
You can spend $10 million to build a 100,000 sqft warehouse that produces no value on its own.
Or with the same capital/leverage you can lease a warehouse and buy ten lasers that each produce $3000 / hr in revenue.
What would you choose?

get into debt if you must, but own a warehouse.

@reticente07 Great job, always feels super rewarding learning new tools and methods to make things.

@jamesbambridge_ If your goal is autonomous pallet jacks, Modex tradeshow had 42 brands of them this week. It’s super red ocean right now.
English

@connorkapoor With the state of most pallets, a battering ram is what you need👀
English

@jamesbambridge_ I like what I’m seeing, I hope you have a good test program lined up because that’s basically a battering ram lol

@jamesbambridge_ @Spacecolonize Love getting my designs in the mail. Way better than Christmas if you designed it.

@zanehengsperger I like these guys from fastcap. Tape is auto locking, built in pencil sharpener and writing surface can be handy too
