@InfectiousDz Not arguing with your premise that prophylactic ab use is dicey, but the “superinfection” (resistant bacterium) you describe would need to have already been in the patient during treatment (selection). Possible but not always true. Or maybe I misunderstood you...

If you treat COVID early with antibiotics to avoid superinfections, all you've done is made sure when the patient is sick with a superinfection that its resistant to whatever antibiotic you used.
