@Tim_Burgess @thecharlatans CUD. It was the first gig I ever went to, 1988 I think? CUD were supporting The Wedding Present, I’d never heard of them before but they brilliant, and i spent the next year pretty much living in a CUD T-shirt.

@WG_RumblePants The two greats in that lineup, Root and Stokes, have arguably caused the most headaches for the selectors over the years. If Root had knuckled down at number 3, and if Stokes had been a reliable 4th seamer, life might have been easier?

Bethell Duckett Smith or Rew Root Brook Rew or Smith (wk) Stokes When you write it down, it doesn’t look bad as a top 7 🤔🤷 I’m not even convinced myself that this would be the way to go. It’s just something I’m mulling over. And, yes, I know that Bethell’s not an established opener and I do remember the failed Dan Lawrence experiment 😬 I’d counter that, however, with the fact that Lawrence isn’t even a number 3 — he’s a number 5 or 6 — and that Bethell’s probably a better batter than Lawrence and has a (gulp) “higher ceiling” 🤦 What do you reckon? Have I gone mad?

It suddenly struck me as odd, that at a time when the world is totally fucked by massive male egos, we are all being told of the advantages of a religion which glorifies and inflates and enables the male ego and protects it from any criticism

@ScarredForLife2 The Crowman was like the most terrifying teacher you ever had, but would be there to tend your wounds and put you back together after a beating from a bully.

It's Sunday afternoon - time for Worzel Gummidge! How about THE CROWMAN (1979), an episode which saw Worzel don his infamous Handsome Head and propose to a female scarecrow, who proceeds to beat him with a broom and dismember him. Folk horror fun for all the family!

@tds122 I reckon sharing a dressing room with Ronnie Irani, Dermot Reeve, and Phil Tufnell would have become tiresome.

@tds122 Mark Alleyne, captained a ruthless one day outfit which dominated domestic cricket for 7 years, but did it in such an unassuming lovable way. A great guy.

@WG_RumblePants Ray Illingworth, no nonsense, play hard, however tough the opponent he’d have the doggedness and backbone to win.

Imagine you’re a newly capped international cricketer. You’re a bit nervous, very excited and you’re ready for your first international match. Which player or former player would you want as your skipper on your debut? Who would get the best out you? Rather predictably, I’ll go with the innovator, PGH Fender. Arguably one of the best captains England never had. Marvellous cravat too.

Thoughts with those that wanted a fatality in the grand national today. 34 horses set out and 34 back home. Yes a couple of battle wounds but that’s the same With any horse race

Well done JP McManus, @WillieMullinsNH & Paul Townend, and of course I Am Maximus on winning today’s Grand National. Can he equal Red Rum’s record of 3 next year?

Love or hate the Grand National, there is still nothing like it. I was sat in a packed pub in a small rural town and everyone was there to watch the race. The bar sweepstake sold out (got the last ticket for Beauport!) and there were about 5 racing posts strewn across the tables. This is still the race that stops a nation. Long live the National!

They are specifically created and bred for racing. The horse would never be born otherwise. I don't understand the hand-wringing about this stuff. Life is suffering. No living creature is owed a comfortable existence. The horse served it's purpose, put it down and stop crying.

@prodnose That office setting looked so modern back in the day, open plan, suspended ceiling, bright, light, and a hive of activity. Totally opposite to the dark brick cubby holes of British office blocks. Now we’ve caught up, the prototype of every Call Centre, and they’re bloody horrible
