@SC___Scout Juat clarifying Ben is not on $1M+ a year. Around $800k over 5 years. Just contract was heavily front ended which caused the headlines as his first year figure was huge. In 2026 closer to $500k now

In light of the whiteboard saga - something that gets completely overlooked is the sliding doors moment where the Hawthorn Football Club were ready to pay Ben McKay $1M+ a year and he says no, choosing the Essendon Football Club instead. So Hawthorn are forced to pivot. We bring in Tom Barrass and Josh Battle and suddenly the entire spine and identity of the team completely changes. I honestly don’t think we’d be anywhere near the same premiership window over the next few years if McKay says yes. ✅ One decision, a completely different future. I weight that decision even higher than the Zach Merrett deal falling through #AFL #Hawthorn

I hope Caddy, Kako, Roberts etc & new draftees decide to band together to drive EFC forward. Tell the senior players who refuse to put in & sook it up to shape up or fark off. Lord knows, we have had enough of senior players not giving a fark. @essendonfc

@jameslord787 he did not. haven't heard a name who we should have played (cos they didn't exist), its pretty clear you have a super shallow view but you do you bud.

i wonder if Essendon try and flip senior players for more draft capital this year + next. theres guys who don't quite fit but would offer a bit to teams in the window or looking for senior bodies. not saying we don't need them but theres some in spots i'd prefer playing kids.

@SilentGhost263 Instead of finishing 12th… why not bottom out and finish 18th? Brad Scott prolonged careers such as Heppell & jake Kelly when could have just bottomed out. You’d be in such a better position now

@HeathLyons Have to have half a brain to play forward sadly. McKay lacks in that area. That’s why a lot of young kids coming through play defence before switching to up front

All this bashing of McKay which is well deserved.. Hes absolutely shot of confidence, with May out this week why not try him forward? His brother is pretty handy up there, who knows? Whats going to hurt by trying?
