Game Engines. So packed with shiny, so seductive, so initially rewarding, but I’m so done with them. I’m not a professional games developer anymore, I’m a hobbyist, so I can get away with this heresy, because I have no influence, but anything I do now will be without an engine.

You pay per video and it was used as a pre-release play-testing service, to let you notice issues before you put the game up online. anyone else know that? quick googling didn't bring up anything #gamedev #playtesting

There was this service that lets you pay to have people play your game and post 15+ minute videos with their commentary...

@Donzanoid @molecularmusing I spent a couple of years as a “lisp” (Clojure) programmer - so “building” the program while it was running became second nature. It’s a super power!

@molecularmusing It's always been an issue with this. The edit/compile/relaunch/reproduce loop is so ingrained in programmers that there's little ability to imagine other ways. But when people see it first-hand, it's like pure magic. Even then it takes months for the full potential to be realised

I just gave a live demo of @liveplusplus hot-deoptimize and hot-fix to somebody who knew about it from the docs, but seeing it in action their feedback was "you can do *that*? that's amazing!".
