This is why public order education matters for journalists. Anyone with even a basic grasp of the Gravesend site knows what happens there and why. It's absolutely nothing new. However, what makes this piece so galling is that the access came from an organised visit offered in good faith. And then someone decides to turn it into an opportunity like this. It’s hard not to despair at this industry when people make everyone’s job that little bit harder, all for the sake of a cheap scaremongering moment.

There is nothing staged about these scenes. My colleagues and I spent days on the beaches, often waiting for hours without witnessing anything. Any suggestion that these events are fabricated is simply inaccurate.

Are these fake photos of illegal immigrants rushing in the sea at Calais? The guy with a kid on his shoulders has his mouth open, and a hat on in summer (kid in winter coat too). He is either stupid, or not there. We all know no kids are coming across on the boats. Fake?
