Research and Student Panels on "Lost Boys: The Digital Revolution, the Retreat from Marriage, and the Decline of Men" will start at 2:30 PM on Tuesday, March 17 @UVA 2:30 to 3:30 PM Academic panel spotlighting new data on the consequences of the digital revolution, fatherlessness, and delayed marriage with Joe Davis (UVA), Spencer James (BYU), Gerard Robinson (UVA), Brian Willoughby (BYU), and Jason Carroll (Wheatley). 4:00 to 5:00 PM Student panel with Brayson Holmes, Conwell Morris, and Nic Sanker, who will offer their perspectives on how the digital revolution, schools that are not boy friendly, and family change have impacted the boys and men of their generation. Today we honor not plastic hats or green beer, but a slave boy who became a Saint and lit the fire of Christendom. Born Patricius in Roman Britain, kidnapped at 16 by Irish raiders, he worked six years as a shepherd slave. In the cold and loneliness, he found God. He escaped, trained as a bishop, and returned to Ireland in 432 AD with nothing but the Gospel. He lit the Paschal fire on Slane, used the humble shamrock to teach the Trinity, and turned kings and clans from pagan darkness to the light of Christ. Though he died March 17, 461, his legacy exploded. When Rome fell and barbarians burned Europe, Irish monks, Patrick’s spiritual sons, saved civilization. They proved Christianity’s core truth: every soul bears God’s image, liberty is divine, and charity outlasts empires. The Great Famine drove my ancestors to America (who 200 years earlier lost our family Kirwin castle in beautiful Galway in a card game 😁). They were feisty risk-takers who helped shape this republic—founded on Christian dignity, religious freedom, and the rights Patrick’s faith first defended. This day reminds us of the fire St. Patrick lit: for the working man, the faithful family, the patriot who loves America (and Ireland). It reminds us the West was built on Christ. So wear the green for the Emerald Isle, fly Old Glory for our newfound home, and kneel in thanks to the God who sent Patrick. “May the road rise up to meet you… and may God hold you in the palm of His hand.” Erin go Bragh. The #okleg Senate GOP Caucus is convening for a discussion about #veto overrides and whatever other surprises might be afoot today. "I don't know how many we can [override]," a senator said with a sigh. Gov. Stitt has vetoed 68 bills this session. Someone check his ink well.

Kind of weird to sing about imagining that the world would be better with no religion inside a Cathedral, but maybe this was a personal request. At any rate, I imagine a better world in which this Boomer anthem is finally recognized as schlock and cringe.

Luke 2:24 indicates that Joseph and Mary did not have enough wealth to offer a lamb when they dedicated a young Jesus, instead offering the alternative for the poor—two turtle doves. The Son of God joined those who had little. Seems an important reminder for His church.
