If there was a competition for the biggest waste of practice time. This would definitely be the #1 seed.
One of the worst I’ve seen yet.

@coachdecost1 going with 3-3 this year - what depth do your ss and ws play in base?

@ZacGoodman_ Teams that practice with a purpose don't need to run after practice.
1. Indy periods are usually a huge waste of time aka junk volume at low intensity that doesn't match game demands. 2. Most team warm ups are a missed development opportunity.
Sprint fast. Practice fast. Rest.

When it comes to conditioning for sport, playing the sport is as good as it gets.
Taking time away from skill work or live practice work to run laps or gassers isn’t an efficient use of time.
Football Players have to be conditioned for Football… by playing Football🙌🏻

This is so brain dead I can’t even. Every single play involves all out sprints when you’re fatigued for 3/4 of the players on the field. And even then ask the pulling guards if they ever have to sprint while fatigued.

@Matt_Pinner yes i was born in 1990 and thankful my mom was this way we played outside from the moment we got home from school and all day on weeknd’s.
English

@BrendanThompsn i get parents that ask me why we don’t stretch before practice when the kids have had 80 minute strength and speed class before…
English

@JoeAratari also tells the kid he needs to transfer to a bigger school to get recruited when it may not be the best fit for them.

Private skill trainers who know their high school kids are training six days a week with their high school program and push them to come do extra skill sessions at night/after Saturday games/on Sundays are negligent.
It’s no surprise how injured / beat up and physically underdeveloped our kids are.

@pntrack especially with all of the data now. what were the type of catches he struggled with most?
reps those.

Heard a couple experts on Chicago sports radio discussing how Rome Odunze needs to eliminate drops next year (8.8% drop rate!).
Their answer: catch 100 balls a day from Jugs machine.
The answer to every question seems to be MORE. More work, more reps, more time.
Instead, do game-like reps in small doses in a state of health, energy, and alertness.
Practice like you are playing high-stakes poker.
Perform in practice!

English

Have you ever played poker without money?
That’s how most teams practice.
Poker without money is playing (practicing) the game without meaning or significance.
You can *learn* Texas Hold’em or Seven-Card Stud, but if you practice without money you are not preparing for game-like conditions.
Teams must PERFORM IN PRACTICE at game speed on a foundation of rest, recovery, sleep, and nutrition.
Teams are capable of “performing” 2-3 a week (including games/competitions). The other days need to be OFF or “Fundamental Days”.

If you are never performing in practice, are playing poker for plastic chips.

@Coach_WBarto we only have two tvs in field house - would you have assistants pull up lap tops?
English

Meet with your guys before practice (position group)
Explain the plan for the day and walk through the drills you’re running in Indy/Group.
Cuts down wasted time and creates more reps.
At the HS level this is critical! Never understand why more coaches don’t do this to help their kids and team be more organized and make practice tempo quicker.
English

@Coach_WBarto how is this broken up at the hs level do you each have your own classroom?
