This man was among the approximately 100,000 people who witnessed the Miracle of the Sun on October 13, 1917. This followed the six apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary (on May 13, June 13, July 13, August 13, September 13, and October 13) to three shepherd children between May and October 1917. Mary had told the children that a miracle would occur on October 13th, and many of those who came to the site were there to mock the children and ridicule the Church. Yet they were left astonished. If this doesn’t prove anything to you, then what will?

@MackyMus_24 @DavQuinn You’ve just described a preference, not a moral standard. And why should Jesus even care about subjective morality? 😂 His existence is the basis for an objective grounded morality! Which is my main point, that you avoid refuting lol Yea, maybe I will move on 😂

@jasonlmcclean @DavQuinn You are incorrect, my version allows the subject to consider what they wouldn't like done to them and use this as a moral standard on how to act towards others. Your imaginary jesus guy hadn't a fucking clue how subjective morality works. Just move on, your done my friend.

A new Irish study shows how pupils who are religious cope better with mental health challenges. This is a very important message that should be more widely known. irishcatholic.com/faith-and-flou…

@MackyMus_24 @DavQuinn Your version is worse, it lets you do nothing and still think you're moral. The original asks you to act towards the good! And your subjective interpretation still needs an objective moral standard of right and wrong to judge it against. That standard is Jesus and his actions.

@jasonlmcclean @DavQuinn I just did, your mythical Messiah sermon is open to subjective interpretation and may be used to justify bad actions, my improved version prohibits this as it takes account of negative consequences. And just like that, I am more moral than your abrahamic messianic god.

@MackyMus_24 @DavQuinn You can understand both angles as being true... Jesus's is geared TOWARDS doing good, yours is geared AWAY from doing bad.... His is better, as it's proactive...... Going away from your strawman, Do you have a better, more moral, objective, lived example of a person to emulate??

@jasonlmcclean @DavQuinn I'll refer you to Mathew 7-12, in the sermon he apparently said "So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you". What he should have said is "So in everything, do NOT do to others what you WOULDN'T have them do to you". He was very close, but no bueno 😘

@jasoncarter555 @DavQuinn You're only concept of religion seems to very specific critiques of certain aspects of the institutions that facilitate it, not the lived experiences of the adherents of it or the multitudes of other aspects. Shallow. Thinking that the Christian God is a sky daddy, also shallow.

@jasonlmcclean @DavQuinn I don’t get why being called anti religious would be considered an insult, considering that most religions tend to be either a cult and especially an organisation that doesn’t pay tax and also an organisation that tends to abuse men women and children alike

@jasoncarter555 @DavQuinn I figured that would be your standard of reply, judging by your comments 😂 Anti religious sentiment is usually followed by very very shallow thinking 😂

@MackyMus_24 @DavQuinn And to cultivate compassion and help others? Got any moral exemplars there? Is there a human example that transcends all others that calls us to an objective standard you can think on? ..... Give me a better embodied example than Jesus and maybe then I'll say he won't be needed.

@jasonlmcclean @DavQuinn Well you could begin by fostering acceptance, cultivating compassion, practice mindfulness in order to break destructive thought patterns, and take action to help others. These things don't mask the problem they actively engage to migate the problem. Your jesus isn't needed.

@MackyMus_24 @DavQuinn Fostering acceptance? Why, and towards what? If suffering isn't redeemable and there's no real objective shared metaphysical purpose to life (religion) then what you talk about is a coping mechanism and not a true path in life. You're not mitigating anything, YOU'RE masking it.

@MackyMus_24 @DavQuinn Jesus has taught me that suffering happens, and that it can be redeemed by willingly undertaking it and moving forward (The way of the cross).... How is this masking the fundamental issues of life? Give me ANY other remedy for suffering and THERE I will show you childish coping.

@DavQuinn Religion is a defense and coping mechanism against childish helplessness. In that regard it may seem like a solution to mental health problems. However it's merely a smokescreen that hides the true issues and offers nothing to address the underlying cause.

@jasoncarter555 @DavQuinn Surely following a perfectly moral man in the path of redemtive suffering would be the reason suffering is being alleviated? They're being taught to take up and transform their suffering.... It's not a coping mechanism but the truth of how to deal with suffering.

@DavQuinn So let’s not use this to force religion down people’s throats because last time Ireland was religious or the church has a stronghold, it didn’t work out well for alter boys and single mothers

@jasoncarter555 @DavQuinn Your view on religion and what it's doing is very shallow. Ontology, is a way in which you engage with the ground of your being, a Christian ontology is complete and full.....The brain needs a world view to predictions on how to plan the future, to minimise anxiety.

@IlaMuhin1 @Adam_FaithfulM What is beauty to you? Is it transcendent? Does it point you to anything higher?.... What should the logical connection to beauty be?

@Adam_FaithfulM There’s no logical connection here at all. You look at something beautiful and think that someone could have created it personally. By the same logic, you could look at rotten meat covered in worms and say, “Oh yes, how beautifully God created this.”

@TranshumanCyst @Adam_FaithfulM And you would fail to understand, seeing as you view God as a being among many and unable to comprehend (or maybe you just don't know because you only ever learnt about the faith from the viewpoint of it's opposition) that the Christian God is the ground of being itself.

@Adam_FaithfulM And yet you will continue to fail to demonstrate what it would mean for a god to make this possible, and even if you could, what you would show would merely beg the question why that thing wasn't created by another god.
