O-Line Lost Leverage Drill The Lost Leverage Drill is designed for situations where an initial block is not perfect and requires a recovery. Here are the six most important coaching points from the video: - Drive with the Backside Foot: When starting the drive, the offensive lineman should step first with their trailing or backside foot to initiate movement. - Reset the Hands: If the initial hand strike is outside the defender's pads or lacks strength, the player must immediately reset their hand placement to regain control. - Punch and Jab: When resetting, the player should not just place their hands back on the defender; they must forcefully punch or jab to create impact and displacement. - Sink the Hips: As the hands are reset and the punch is delivered, the player should sink their hips to generate the necessary leverage and power to move the defender. - Maintain Direct Hand Paths: To be effective, the hand movement during a reset must be direct and fast; avoiding wide hand paths prevents giving the defender an opportunity to escape. - Gain Ground with Steps**: While focusing on resetting the hands and hips, it is crucial for the player to continue gaining ground with their lower body to maintain the block's momentum. The “Knockdown Drill” is a favorite offseason drill for college and pro OL. It reinforces the correct sequence of getting the foot in the ground before hand contact. Watch the full drill video and more at TOSFB.com. Start Your Free 30 Day Trial Today!

O-Line Engage, Drive, and Finish Drill - The drill begins from the "fit" position, simulating the moment after an offensive lineman has taken their second step and engaged with a defender. -It assumes the lineman has already taken a zone step with their right foot and followed with a second step to engage the defender. Core Objectives: - The primary goal is to train the body to finish through a defender. - A key emphasis is placed on "rolling the hips" through the defender, a detail many players find difficult. - Generating Force: The drill teaches players how their body bends to create maximum force and power. - Boards are placed on the ground to ensure players do not cross their feet or develop a stance that is too narrow. - Footwork: Players are encouraged to play off the arches of their feet. - Leverage: Coaches look for players to press off the correct foot (e.g., the right foot after a second step) to deliver power with the third step. - Body Position: Linemen should play "thick and square" through the opponent. - Drill Purpose: While the drill is stationary and lacks the realism of a rushing defender, it is designed to teach players how to move their weight violently, heavily, and efficiently.
