@Truthan98259087 @oldglstuf @ShegunTweets To be a Baptist that baptizes babies makes one fundamentally not a Baptist. It is the very definition of the theological tradition. The bare unfamiliarity of the writers with this fact or the plausible psychology of a devout Baptist is what is frustrating.

@Truthan98259087 @oldglstuf @ShegunTweets No Baptist would ever think to baptize her granddaughter, ever. Not to get one up on the catholics, not if her baby was dying in her arms, never. 100,000 times more baptist children circumcised than baptized. It is not done, never would be done, and would never be thought of.

both mandy’s and georgie’s mothers went behind their backs and had their child baptised without consent, so mandy retaliated with a spite wedding and left them both off the guest list

@Truthan98259087 @oldglstuf @ShegunTweets It being Mary’s idea is what makes it the most unbelievable. What happened is that some atheist thought it would be funny to have a rivalry between a baptist and a catholic, and only about 3/4 through production did somebody point out how insane it was so they added the line.

@Truthan98259087 @oldglstuf @ShegunTweets And yet he still did it, and he did it by pouring(?) There isn’t a baptist pastor on the planet that would do something like this, it’s like if you had an orthodox rabbi eating pork.

@pontificatormax @holysmoke He explicitly gave no theological or moral repudiation of formalized blessings, and he explicitly stated that “today such blessings would create more disunity than unity.” Fr. James Martin is not exactly left punching sand here.

He did not rule out gay blessings. he ruled out FORMALIZED gay blessings. The Germans want (and will still push) a formalized ritual published in a ritual book. They already have the book and they'll use it. All Leo said was Fiducia Supplicans stands, which means GAY BLESSINGS stand.

Some people seem to be having a hard time accepting that Leo (a) ruled out gay blessings, slapping down Marx, and (b) doesn’t want to prioritise sexual sins over other ones. I don’t see much tension between these positions. Also, it’s very clear by now that Leo is going to confront the unbelievable mess left by Francis without repudiating him – indeed, while paying tributes to him that many of us don’t think he deserves. Pope Leo’s reforms will be unspectacular, restoring the rule of law in incremental steps without making a show of tearing up Francis’s crazier rulings. Also, bear in mind that Francis himself had a habit of pulling back from the brink. After TC, he resisted pressure to finish off the TLM completely. And when FS exploded in his face he made clear that he didn’t want anything to do with it. The deplorable confusion created by Francis, partly deliberately, paradoxically gives Leo a certain freedom of manoeuvre – and he’ll need it if he intends to govern from the centre ground while quietly repairing the worst Bergoglian damage. Thus yesterday he made the liberal noises necessary to contain progressive dismay over the real news, his decision to put Marx back in his place by reiterating and making more explicit the current ban on blessings for same-sex couples.
Damian Thompson@holysmoke

Vatican sources have been saying for some time that Leo is *significantly* more conservative on sexual morality than Francis. Today we learned beyond doubt that their assessment is correct.

@MegaCrit idea for a neat rare potion: Lingering Potion / Bottle of Pael’s Breath: add a permanent copy of a card in your hand to your deck. Like a duplication shrine event, but with more flexibility, and the ability to target really spicy created cards, like Omega from STS 1.

@seanrcallaghan @CatholicSmark @FeserEdward You aren’t reading what the pope actually said. No where in the document does he say what Cdn. Marx is doing would contravene divine law. He merely says that at this time such a ceremony would cause more unity than disunity. Fr. James Martin is not in sackcloth reading this.

Good for Pope Leo for upholding orthodoxy. But I do wish he wouldn't succumb to the temptation to soft pedal questions of sexual morality. They are absolutely crucial to the health of the family, and thus fundamental to the entire social order. They need more discussion, not less
Michael Haynes 🇻🇦@MLJHaynes

JUST IN: Pope Leo XIV responds to Cardinal Marx — Says Vatican does not approve blessing of same sex couples. Adds a blessing can be given to “all people” like at the end of Mass. Leo states—— “First of all, I believe it is very important to understand that the unity or division of the Church should not revolve around sexual issues. We tend to think that when the Church speaks of morality, the only moral issue is a sexual one. In reality, I believe there are much larger and more important issues—such as justice, equality, the freedom of men and women, and religious freedom—that should take priority over that particular issue. The Holy See has already spoken with the German bishops. The Holy See has made it clear that we do not agree with the formal blessing of couples—in this case, same-sex couples, as you requested—or of couples in irregular situations, beyond what Pope Francis has specifically permitted by saying that all people should receive the blessing. When a priest gives the blessing at the end of Mass, when the Pope gives the blessing at the end of a great celebration like the one we had today, there are blessings for all people. Francis’s famous expression, “everyone, everyone, everyone,” expresses the Church’s conviction that everyone is welcomed, everyone is invited, everyone is invited to follow Jesus, and everyone is invited to seek conversion in their own lives. To go beyond this today, I believe, could cause more disunity than unity, and that we should seek to build our unity on Jesus Christ and on what Jesus Christ teaches. This is my answer to the question.
