According to ancient Hindu Tantra (Advait Shaivism), the process of self cognition involves the mind gaining and utilizing consciousness. Unlike other living beings, we not only know, but “we know that we know”. We have the ability to monitor our own thought processes and remain conscious of them. Furthermore, we can compare and evaluate our thoughts against objective standards of thinking and consciousness, known as "Siddhis" in ancient Hinduism. These standards are comprised of 8 benchmarks and 8 obstacles, which can be achieved through 50 smaller steps. So, we can do comparative assessment!! h How do we achieve this seemingly magical ability? Tantra explains it as perceiving the world as a "mithiya" or hologram/matrix. We are able to stand outside of this projection and observe ourselves, projecting our thoughts outward and perceiving them. By comparing this projection to our memory and knowledge of the universe, we can measure and sense any differences using three dimensional geometry and make a binary decision of "go" or "no go".
