@Jonathan_Blow @RyDawgE_ I sent an email but I am probably not experienced enough to be the target. Would fucking love to throw C++ to the garbage tho…

@RyDawgE_ It's about: (a) Does the person know what they are doing and aren't going to be a high-maintenance beta user, (b) Is the person going to actually really use the language to build hopefully nontrivial things. That's it.

There are many requests to get into the compiler beta. And sometimes I am very busy, so it's a while before I add new people (this time, it's been 5 weeks). Just as a public service announcement though, on a day like today, if you mailed to get into the beta and your name is like "Thunder" or "vampire master", your chances of getting in are substantially decreased. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

How it Started vs. How it’s Going 2025 I built a custom C++/OpenGL 3D game engine and editor from scratch in less than a year, and just ~2h average a day. Now, let's see how far I can push it with a small proof-of-concept game next. As the year closes, I want to thank the group of people who has been following along while I created this project. The comments and reactions on every post motivated me to climb another step every day. Cheers!

@wookash_podcast Dude I 100% agree, Harry Potter 1 & 2 were bangers. I was a kid tho, maybe we had bad taste

My dear friend has mocked me for liking old Harry Potter games (1 & 2, though 3 is ok as well). Were these games any good, or is it just nostalgia? His stance is "if it wasn't well-known IP you wouldn't like it". He generally stays away from games that licensed IP - HP, LOTR, Warhammer, etc. Cause he wants to play games for **their core game ideas**, not to play "reskins" of popular game mechanics with known characters. But I'm like, bro, Harry Potter 2, with its all secrets, silver cards, quidditch, was crazy good! Had so much mystery, the magic was basic, yet it was exactly what 7/8/15 year old me wanted. Does anyone remember these games, and being older at that time, can wage in, and offer their take - were they plain games with "stolen" / "adapted" mechanics from other works, or were there original games, that happened to license popular IP?

@vkrajacic The real difference between a junior and a senior is the senior does the same with half the LOC

Deleting code is the best kind of engineering. Period. Simplicity > Lines of code. While the whole world of vibe coders brags about pushing tens of thousands of LOC a day, I'm actually happier when my codebase shrinks every now and then, usually when I spot repeating patterns and extract reusable code into a better architecture. File Pilot is only a little above 100k LOC right now, which I already consider a lot. And I've been working on it for 4 years straight. So when I see people here talking about how they push thousands of LOC a day, I'm like... there is no way in the world you understand that code and all the implications of all the pieces that have to communicate with each other. You're gonna lock yourself so fast, into a place of such complexity that not even AI will be able to help. And for what? Speed? In generating mediocre junk code. You only value your time. I value my users time. We're not the same.

@dirkbreeze @Jonathan_Blow US government spending so much money in healthcare is not a consequence of high prices, it’s the CAUSE

@dirkbreeze @Jonathan_Blow By the way you clearly didn’t understand what I was saying so I will spell it out so you can actually engage with my argument for once. I am saying the US government is spending too much on healthcare, driving demand up and increasing the prices artificially.

@dirkbreeze @Jonathan_Blow I was replying to your graph. You were proposing reducing the 8% of administrative cost, and I proposed going to Switzerland levels, which would be a 4% decrease in the total cost, and totally irrelevant. By the way, how exactly are you proposing we reduce the price?

@dirkbreeze @Jonathan_Blow The american government needs to stop funding healthcare companies and yet the left has somehow convinced itself that the government is the solution and not the problem

@dirkbreeze @Jonathan_Blow Really? You think reducing prices a 4% (lets reduce it to Switzerland values) will solve the problem? Seems to me like an irrelevant reduction that won’t solve any problem. Since you like graphs let me send you one too. How is this not the source of the problem?

@dirkbreeze @Jonathan_Blow Very funny to consider prices being high exploitation but actual doctors being exploited not exploitation.

@javgomzar @Jonathan_Blow very good of you to resort to ad hominem. all the best do. what i care about is the world leading waste in our health care industry. i consider the rent seeking the exploitation, and reducing it to be a normative economic choice

@dirkbreeze @Jonathan_Blow Yes but countries with universal healthcare (I know this because I live in one) have worse healthcare, long waiting lists and exploited doctors with shit salaries. In Spain doctors have been in strike since the the start of 2026. I wouldn’t say you have a worse outcome

@javgomzar @Jonathan_Blow and, yet, somehow, americans pay substantially more for worse outcomes than our peers in countries with universal healthcare. probably not important, though.
