@BmbEmpower Yep that house is still there today. Roland Burris, who went on to be Illinois Comptroller for years, lives there.

The Queen of Gospel music Mahalia Jackson mowing the lawn at her new $45,000 Chicago home, 1956 -- the equivalent of about $538,100 today. Almost immediately after she moved in, a sea of “For Sale” signs aggressively popped up across the lawns of her white neighbors. Many white residents chose to flee the neighbourhood rather than live next door to a Black woman, even if that woman was an internationally beloved superstar. @jaycaspiankang I would like to be interviewed for your book. My uncle, Mac Irvin, and Sonny Vecaro started travel basketball. It was never meant to be what it has become. I have a ton of info.

the book I've got coming out soon is about how so much of child raising for the middle classes is built off this model, how this leads to alienation and loss of community (and doesn't produce better athletes, mathematicians, or anything). Stay tuned.

Travel baseball has turned into: Pay tons of money to play. Pay to travel. Pay to stay. Pay to watch your own kid. And somehow… this became normal. Will it ever change or just get worse?

@CoachSwit It is in every sport because cities around the nation that used to offer these same sports for nominal fees in your local PARK DISTRICT, which you pay for with your TAXES, stopped offering them or weren't good enough for some parents who thought they had the next Babe Ruth.

@HisfavoriteTing Agreed. But there is a reason why our music artists, (J-Hud, Common, Cube, LL, Ice T) and others try to go mainstream. Because it's where the real $$ is and how they can impact the community greater. It is a Catch-22. And with Diablo Naranja in the Caso Blanco, we all in danger.

@jaycoyden I mean they made enough money to have a business that white folks felt.the need to burn down. I think we had to have been profitable enough to survive. Just think if we collectively only spent money with us? Many of us are the only reason they have had thriving business for years

@HisfavoriteTing And by the way, I love that you asked this question. It is one where I don't think there is a right or wrong answer. Just a lot of damn thoughts.

@jaycoyden We owned alot of those businesses back then. If course not as much as they did. But that if we had the same access to ownership they did? Something to ponder

@LuckyLefty_5 I've officiated both. There is a difference in how they play. Girls tend to travel more and have more jump balls, not sure why this is. It's not a bias, just a reality. Boys are faster, jump higher and have more agility. I played in hs, coached girls hs and reffed for 8 years.

The day referees officiate girls as BASKETBALL PLAYERs and not girls, we will have more exciting games! Don’t let this message go over your head !

@DOB23 @IHSA_IL Nope with catholic schools in the Chicago area being allowed to illegally recruit the best players it has become a joke in all the major sports.

I hate to harp on the @IHSA_IL. But, the state boys basketball finals used to be so good. As a child, I would watch the state tourney on TV. Glued to it all weekend. The Do-or-Die Friday. Packed gyms each weekend. It was a spectacle. It’s never coming back.

@USAWP @ChapmanSports @theAshJohnson Great job Zoey, my homegirl Ashley and USA Water Polo as I gear up for my 14th season as a referee. Continue to grow the sport in non-traditional communities will make the sport even better.
