Graham literally bragged that America ran out of bombs 💣 in Iran - a feat he said we didn’t accomplish in WWII. 🤦‍♂️ He threatens allies while shouting Cuba’s next. On @seanhannity - he encouraged @realDonaldTrump to “take Kharg Island.” As a Marine, Graham’s reckless and constant blood-thirsty war-mongering pisses me the fuck off. He’s an idiot with no idea what “take Kharg Island” entails. 2,500 Marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) - part of a Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF) are headed to the region. This is a self-contained unit designed to operate independently from the sea. They arrive aboard the USS Tripoli - an amphibious assault ship - a light aircraft carrier. A MEU brings its own mini-air force and heavy equipment including Fighter Jets - 6–10 F-35B Lightning II stealth fighters capable of vertical takeoff and landing - MV-22 Ospreys for long-range troop transport - CH-53K King Stallion heavy-lift helicopters - as well as Viper & Venom Attack Helicopters for close air support. A MEU has unmanned JLTVs equipped with the NMESIS - Naval Strike Missiles - for sinking ships - along with HIMARS rocket systems which can be fired directly from the decks of the ships. In short, an MEU are bad ass Marines designed to sustain themselves for 15 to 30 days without external resupply.🫡 I believe these 2,500 Marines can “take” Kharg Island initially. The Island is only about 8 square miles and relatively flat. With F-35B air cover and naval gunfire, the Marines could overwhelm local IRGC defenses quickly. BUT THEN WHAT? We must Hold it. And that’s the high-risk part. Kharg is only 15 miles from the Iranian mainland - well within range of Iran's land-based artillery, short-range ballistic missiles, and suicide drone swarms. In fact, the Iranians may not put up much of a fight on the Island - BY DESIGN - believing they now have OUR troops in a FISHBOWL. Once on the island, the Marines become Stand-In Forces under constant bombardment from the mainland. Iran still maintains a layered coastal defense strategy. Their primary assets stationed along the mainland include a Cruise Missile with a range of over 1,000 km that uses AI-assisted navigation to swerve and evade radar. It allows Iran to try and strike the Tripoli or other support ships from deep within the Iranian mainland far beyond the reach of coastal troops. Also, Iran has sea-skimming missiles with ranges of 120–300 km. They fly just a few meters above the water, making them very difficult for shipboard systems to detect until they are extremely close. Reports indicate Iran has moved much of its remaining inventory into underground, hardened tunnels - 150 feet deep but are also hidden in the rugged coastal mountains. Iran still has suicide drones and fast-attack craft that can be launched from civilian-looking ports to saturate the defenses of an amphibious group. In sum, while 2,500 Marines are capable of the initial “take” mission, the "hold" mission could prove to be a "death trap.” After considering the above, consider Iran’s promised response to ground troops. Iran threatened to retaliate against the energy infrastructure of regional neighbors like the UAE, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia and BURN THE GULF causing a global catastrophe. Iran could employ full-scale mining of the Strait of Hormuz ensuring that if they can’t export oil - NO ONE CAN. Using Proxies Iran could coordinate strikes by Hezbollah or Houthi rebels against U.S. bases in Iraq, Syria, and ships in the Red Sea. Why? To overstretch U.S. focus and force us to defend multiple fronts while also needing to simultaneously send A LOT MORE than 2,500 troops to help our Marines hold Kharg Island. As a Marine & as the Republican Nominee for U.S. Senate in MA, I’ll say again: Lindsey Graham: STFU
