In this secondary analysis, we examined associations between concomitant medications and #PSP Rating Scale scores. We observed that participants prescribed benzodiazepines experienced more rapid worsening compared to those not prescribed benzodiazepines. @CurePSP @MGHNeurology

My best friend @jaymiyer is running the 2025 BMW Berlin Marathon to raise money for @CurePSP and support Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) patients. In 2019, PSP claimed the lives of both Jay’s grandfather and my grandmother. Please consider donating: give.curepsp.org/fundraiser/641…

Very grateful to be a part of this work, mentored by @sachinjshah. Here, we identify a subgroup of patients for which AF screening is effective, and show that effect-based screening approaches should be used with risk-based approaches when screening for atrial fibrillation.

Please consider reading the story of @jaymiyer, my best friend at Harvard, and his brave and loving family. Jay and I were fast friends in part because of many parallels in our life experiences. It's been inspiring to watch him use his personal adversity as fuel for his fire.

Thank you @MGH_RI for sharing my family's story. I'm incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to learn and grow under wonderful mentors at @MGHNeurology. mgriblog.org/2024/10/11/mas…

Last summer, I had the incredible opportunity to conduct research in the Shimogori Lab at @RIKEN_CBS, focusing on analyzing spatial transcriptomics of the developing marmoset thalamus. It was a wonderful experience and I hope to visit again soon!

Are we causing harm to progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP folks) by prescribing them benzodiazepines? Seems logical and now we see some 'stunning' preliminary data from a recent clinical trial @JAMANeuro by Iyer, Boxer, Wills and colleagues. Key points: - Participants in this clinical trial prescribed benzodiazepine derivatives 'experienced more rapid worsening in the PSPRS score between weeks 26 and 52.' - The authors controlled for 'potential confounders.' - There didn't seem to be a bias in the types of persons in each comparison group arguing against rapid progression subtypes affecting. -Duration and dose not associated w/rate of change in scores. Could it be small sample size? My take: The Davunetide clinical trial enrolled only the Richardson syndrome subtype of PSP so we should be careful not to generalize findings, unless and until we have more data. PSP cases are frequently divided by experts into subgroups: PSP–Richardson: classic subtype, PSP–parkinsonism w/ some levodopa response (particularly early in disease), and a Pure Akinesia and Gait Failure subtype. We should 'think twice' before prescribing 'benzos' in PSP. Primum non nocere, first, do no harm. jamanetwork.com/journals/jaman… @CurePSP @DenaDubal @samplease @cynarmandmd

This is important and clinically relevant work out now in @JAMANeuro, from @MGHNeurology @CurePSP and led by the brilliant @jaymiyer. This secondary analysis revealed that progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) patients prescribed benzodiazepines show faster clinical decline. 1/2

The past year has been a difficult road and an emotional journey as I've battled PSP. But right now, what I feel most is hope. Thank you to my friend @RepMcClellan for sharing my words on why Congress must take action to pass the bipartisan National Plan to End Parkinson's Act.
