I made a video going into the invention of a lot of things we give for granted in visual novels, and a never translated title that came before what we consider "the start" of the Rance series It's stuff never seen in English before!! (replies)

@AphantasticR @Lem_201_ Point is if you take 100 random people off the street, 100 of them will say the three musketeers have a higher literary value than any “anime game”, even though the average Yuzusoft game tackles harder themes while having higher emotional highs (only metric these people value)

@Lem_201_ Do they call it a "classic"? The term the the post I am responding to is responding to? Do they call "The Conte of Monte Cristo" a classic? Charles Dickens?

Trying to imagine someone who can read 70 hours worth of Full Metal Daemon Muramasa but without the tolerance for regular novels. I would put my enjoyment and effort put into it on about the same level as I felt reading The Iliad or The Three Musketeers.
me.z@z1papq

I mean... not really. Lots of visual novels (like all otaku media) are just stealing/repacking concepts from more competent works. They're only beloved by a market that has no interest in literature. x.com/kirayhf/status…

At this point so many people are parroting this so much I need to do a statistical analysis of how many eroges A. Feature any teenagers or below B. Only teenagers or below I'm not under the delusion there are none, but I don't get the impression it's nearly as bad as anime

@SeidyrVT Like, the general impression is that it was written by a very young person that wishes the law worked on "just be a good person, geez!" principles, as opposed to actual knowledge of the law and due diligence for someone wanting to manage a personal brand.

Not necessarily. Federal rules of evidence bars certain actions that could be deemed as “signs of an admission” as being inadmissible in court. For example, if you are in an accident where you hit someone then offer to pay their medical bill, that offer to pay medical bills is inadmissible in court under Federal Rule of Evidence 409. There are certain red flags in the legal side of it, even with respect to definitions or certain phrasing. For example, Black’s Law Dictionary is the dictionary that lawyers in the US use when defining terms if something is not defined in statute. The choice to use the Cambridge Dictionary might be proper internationally, and from my understanding he is licensed in Malaysia, but it has no relevance really for US courts and judges would ask for either a statute, precedent (binding or otherwise), or Black’s Law dictionary definition for a term.

I’m sure the intention is good but please be careful with guides like this. There is a lot nuance that is missing and it’s always better to talk to a lawyer licensed in your area who knows about this than to trust the guide you see online. -a US attorney (me)

@SeidyrVT It's still self-immolation in the court of public opinion, who now has an eternal "look, they admitted guilt!" screenshot. Plus the fact that it would be brought up in court anyway. In general he didn't express himself in the careful tones that the subject calls for.

@JakelightJ "Always take accountability and apologize first", an extremely unwise legal liability that will sabotage a future defense even when innocent. Same for the "controversies" part. This makes your claim to be "an irl lawyer" extremely dubious, no lawyer would advise this.

I do not understand why this includes "guide to ethics" when there is 0 ethics and a PR section. I can confidently say that the entire PR section is terrible. This is piss poor advice that you should not follow. Probably warrants a stream, but here's a bite: 1) The introduction is generally the most important part of anything. It sets the tone, your initial perception, etc... The introduction of the PR section is a definition of PR as a concept. That definition is simply: incorrect. This is something ChatGPT would give you. But it is neither the academic nor the practical definition. PR, or public relations, is... well... simply that: managing the relationship between an entity and the public (different audiences that are part of that public). [...] People who are unknowledgeable on the topic will simply boil it down to the expression: "having good PR." When it is simply one aspect, one approach, one policy, one choice. PR is about managing your image. It is absolutely a viable strategy to nuke your own image. Being controversial, being infamous, being edgy—these are attractive to enough people to make them viable strategies. We have examples all around us, whether that be in VTubing, entertainment, or politics. [...] Sometimes you will have to make an announcement that YOU KNOW will damage your reputation. Like an agency announcing a graduation/termination, for example. Because, just like life, when it comes to business, there are ups and downs, successes and failures. At that moment, the role of the PR expert is to minimize the loss of reputation. This is called crisis management—one of the main roles of PR. [...] You can center PR around one concept : narrative building. Whether it's creating a sob-story comeback narrative to frame yourself as a go-getter underdog and attract sympathy, or portraying yourself as another victim of a broken machine, another cog, to diminish your role and negative impact as an influential employee of a black company. [...] The fact that the very introduction of the PR section—the definition of the concept of "public relations"—is inaccurate and uninformed, absolutely nukes any credibility for the entire section. Because it is going off an inaccurate premise. Everything in this section is "tainted" because it is built around an inaccurate definition. [...] 2) Another great example is what is considered high/medium/low priority. Consulting a third party and remaining calm and collected SHOULD BE HIGH PRIORITY. The moment you lose your composure is the moment you will do something rash. Again, the core of PR is narrative building. You should stay calm, think of a plan, and execute it. PR experts regularly interact with one another. In bigger corporations, you get an entire PR team. Taking different opinions, including those of third parties, is extremely important. [...] 3) The entire apology section is extremely representative of the author's ignorance of PR in general. There are times when you should apologize. There are times when you absolutely should not. Determining that is an acquired skill in and of itself. Even the most veteran experts can make the wrong call. This section makes it seem as though an apology is your only choice. The advice given here is self-evident. It's the same song and dance everyone knows: "I fucked up, I'm sorry, I'll be better." Everyone knows these things. The real challenge is identifying WHAT you are apologizing for, WHO you are apologizing to, and WHERE you can make adjustments. That's the real challenge. [...] In conclusion, going through everything that is wrong would take way more time and characters than this site allows. While I cannot speak much for the legal side of things, I can give one recommendation regarding the PR section: DO NOT FOLLOW THIS ADVICE AS IT IS PRESENTED. And if the situation demands it, hire or consult a professional or industry veteran. They will most likely give you better advice.

HOLD ON hold on..... You ACTUALLY believe the Mushoku Tensei anime contains multiple depictions of child sexual abuse. An anime being streamed on Crunchyroll, one of THE LARGEST streaming services, right now. And that 100s OF THOUSANDS of people just....let that "slip thru the cracks". Are you for real right now?

@vampirebunny030 @spectraimsim You'd be correct. The funny thing was that the guy who was a real life chud looked just like the chud (pre-existing), which was what made the connection histerical, life imitates art kinda deal. Now we're doing revisionism and people think the chud was based on that guy.

@JMulli02 @nugwisomkami The problem is him trying to buzzword it for a hit tweet by trying to say this is “sakuga houkai”, something defined as something so egregious you’d see it posted 10 years later. If this lapse qualified, then half of every anime in every season would be “sakuga houkai”

as egotistical as it sounds to say things like "you either can see it or you cant", it really is the truth when it comes to stuff like this. it's not a case of "sakuga elitists just making stuff up", it's just not egregious enough to be seen by most people who havent developed the eyes to spot what's jank about it. and when i say "havent developed the eyes", i mean that in a very literal sense. when i was newer to animation and the sakuga community as a whole, this whole section wouldn't have probably caught my attention either.
