I came back to the United States, hearing about a very sad news: Craig Venter passed away today. He is a pioneer, successfully sequenced the first Human genome, and tried to create Synthetic Cells. We lost a giant in Science. RIP. @JCVenterInst

No institutional affiliation, no review. No track record in the field, no review. No IRB, IACUC, IBC, no review.  Do not tell them what they did wrong. That will help them. Desk reject.  If you know, you know.

@statesdj Well, one reason is we pay 4x what Europe does for branded drugs, many of which were developed here.

Why does the US spend more on health care? Because we have an over administered, over credentialed, over regulated and under innovative industry that fiercely resists the introduction of competition in markets wsj.com/health/healthc…

@MTomasson I’m so old, I remember when university administrators worked for the faculty, not the other way around. Agree, the numbers say many universities have become jobs programs, but administrators don’t create knowledge or educate students.

Universities have always been repositories of knowledge, and they have always supported themselves by charging for access to knowledge through tuition and publishing royalties. AI changes everything. Now access to information is essentially free.

Holy shit…Professors at NYU, Stanford, and Case Western stopped building courses by hand. They're using NotebookLM to do it in hours and one just called it the biggest shift in academic research in 20 years. Here's the exact workflow they shared publicly:
