Drug use stance: against it. Its illegal.
Harm reduction: agree with it. It’s part of our training. (Is it not part of HIV 101 training?) It focuses on keeping drug users alive and as healthy as possible
NEW: Woman arrested after ditching her dog at the Las Vegas airport when she was told she couldn't bring it on board.
The woman was told the goldendoodle couldn't fly because it wasn't a registered service animal.
Instead of leaving the airport, the woman decided to tie the dog to the JetBlue ticket counter and leave for the departure gate.
"Airline staff advised the dog’s owner she was required to complete online documentation in order to travel with the animal as a service dog," said the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
"When the required paperwork was not completed, the passenger was denied a boarding pass. She then left the dog behind and proceeded through the airport to the departure gate."
"Officers later located the individual at Gate D1. When asked why she abandoned the dog, she stated the airline would not allow her to fly with it and claimed the dog had a tracking device — implying it was acceptable to leave the animal behind and it would return to her."
The woman then became "hostile" and resisted officers who tried to detain her.
She was charged with animal abandonment and resisting arrest. The dog was sent to an Animal Protective Services' holding for 10 days.
The owner never tried reclaiming the dog, who will now be up for adoption.
"The dog — now affectionately named “Jet Blue” — is safe, in foster care, and will soon be placed in a new, loving home," LVMPD said.
i'm just saying that erwan and @featrmedia has done more to showcase what tourists (& even locals) can "Love the Philippines" for than the department of tourism.
their slow food series alone is literally heograpiya, kasaysayan at sibika.
Hiya is such a Filipino thing. It’s that instinct to stay quiet even when you’re not okay, mostly because you don't want to be a burden.
I had dinner with a friend last night and we were comparing notes on how we survive the rough patches of depression. We kept circling back to how hard it is to reach out. You know your friends love you, you know they’ll be there, but there’s still that nagging voice saying, "Makakaabala ka lang. May buhay din sila. May pinagdadaanan din sila."
So I told him about a code I have with my closest friends. Instead of sending a long explanation, I just text: “Do you have five minutes?”
That’s it.
Five minutes to say what I can’t carry alone. Five minutes to hear another voice. Five minutes to remind myself I’m not isolated.
Most of the time they tell me they can stay longer, but I still try to keep it short. It’s usually enough to break the spiral and catch my breath, without feeling like I’m pulling them down with me or asking for more than I should.
It takes the shame out of reaching out.
Because the most dangerous place isn’t being alone. It’s being alone and convinced you’re not allowed to ask for help.
