Becerra: "The Trump campaign in 2024 talked about 'lost kids' when there were no lost kids." The Biden DHS' own Inspector General found that over 300,000 migrant children went missing under their watch.

@JamesMartinSJ No, it hasn’t. The Church needs to stop catering to sexual sin and the promotion of these satanic lifestyles.

🚨HOW DID FLORIDA PULL IT OFF?: How has the @FloridaGOP gained such a HUGE lead over the state's Democrats? @EvanPower: "We have people like the governor, like the Republican legislature, and like President Trump who made promises on the campaign trail - and delivered on them."

Hatton, America is back
Marjorie Taylor Greene: “MAGA is dead, we’re moving past Donald Trump, and the quicker we move past him the faster we build the solutions to save the country..” MTG must be living in a coconut tree 🌴 MAGA isn't going anywhere, the movement is all about America First. The movement is stronger than ever. MTG and the rest of the radicals, can either get on board,or get steam rolled.

@HappyPete55 @ctrlamb People got to PICK their bishops in Augustine's time. Augustine was a North African who was a bishop IN NORTH/ROMAN AFRICA. Not an analogous situation

@ctrlamb St Augustine was from North Africa, and was a pretty good philosopher before he became a bishop. Perhaps a diversity of perspectives helps the universal church as well?

One of the surest ways a pope can influence the church and its engagement in politics is through the appointment of bishops. Pope Leo XIV’s latest pick: an El Salvador–born advocate for immigrants as bishop of Wheeling-Charleston, West Virginia. The choice reinforces the pope’s message on immigration: that new arrivals, when welcomed and integrated, can strengthen their new home. It’s part of a broader pattern with three of Pope Leo’s first four US bishop appointments born outside the country. My latest for @CNN: edition.cnn.com/2026/05/04/wor…

@MarkJWilliams23 @ctrlamb Leaving aside your TDS, has this new bishop ever condemned sexual abuse and child trafficking or is he just the latest generation of McCarrickism in America?

As the U.S. nears the celebration of its 250th year as a Republic, Leo (the first American pontiff) is demonstrating to the faithful with his early episcopal appointments that the Church in America remains an immigrant faith community now more than ever. This new prelate, originally from El Salvador, in the midst of the unconscionable cruelty of the Trump administration towards migrants (all migrants, not the worst of the worst as Trump campaigned on), will champion the Beatitudes for the faithful in West Virginia and beyond. Leo is showing us that all are welcomed in God's kingdom on earth and in heaven. 🙏

Good Lord. A bishop is not appointed to shape political narratives, but to guard the faith and shepherd souls. Scripture is clear about his purpose: “Keep watch over yourselves and over the whole flock… in which the Holy Spirit has appointed you overseers, to shepherd the church of God.” (Acts 20:28) “Preach the word; be urgent in season and out of season; convince, rebuke, and exhort.” (2 Timothy 4:2) “He must hold firm to the sure word as taught… and refute those who contradict it.” (Titus 1:9) “Tend the flock of God… not for shameful gain, but eagerly… being examples to the flock.” (1 Peter 5:2–3) A bishop may speak to moral issues that touch public life, but his primary mission is spiritual, to teach truth, guard doctrine, and lead souls to Christ. Reducing episcopal appointments to political strategy misses the office entirely.
