As of 6PM today, 8 people living in the East Hastings encampment have requested shelter and have been accommodated. Additional spaces are being held for those who have left the encampment. Thank you to BC Housing and the BC Ministry of Housing for working quickly and diligently to ensure there was sufficient shelter space to meet today’s demand.

Friends @DEWCVancouver were on site at decampment today to find out where unhoused women were moved to, only to be told City only had some shelter beds. Important statement from DEWC and @EndingViolence about homelessness, criminalization, precarity and gender based violence.

Who is escalating in this situation? Is it the observers, or is it the VPD constable violently herding observers with a bicycle?

To ensure the life and safety of all residents and the surrounding community, the decision has been made to bring the East Hastings encampment to a close today. Shelter space is available to those currently residing on Hastings St. As we move forward, we will continue to work with all levels of government to secure quality, permanent housing for our city's most vulnerable residents.
