One of the greatest ODIs ever, in Johannesburg. #OnThisDay in 2006, @RickyPonting smashed 164 off 105 as Australia posted a record 434/4, the first 400+ total in ODI history. But @hershybru replied with 175 off 111 to guide South Africa to a stunning one-wicket win with one ball left, sealing the series 3–2. In all, 87 fours and 26 sixes were struck on the day - both records. Australia's Mick Lewis returned figures of 10-0-113-0,

Happy Roy Essandoh Day. It’s 25 years since the striker signed from Ceefax helped Wycombe to a famous win at Filbert Street. Features Lawrie Sanchez dressed as Columbo investigating a curious homicide, and Martin Tyler marvelling at more FA Cup magic.

I remember Phatts and Small playing my local nightclub in 2000. Got told to fuck off by various people in the crowd as they waljed on and had an ashtray thrown at them. Barely got through 3 songs before shooting back off to London. Probably not their best gig ha #totp

Soak in one hell of a pre-match atmosphere via the BBC's coverage of England v Germany at Euro 96. In my forthcoming book (Euro 96: The Full Story) Barry Davies says he didn't realise he was going to be called into action so early: 'Des Lynam handed over to me in commentary very early. No one told me he was going to do that. I decided this was a heck of a good thing because the noise from the crowd was building up and the song was being sung all over Wembley. I didn’t say anything for, well when I listened back to it, it felt like an eternity. It was about ten minutes. I had no idea he was going to come to me so early. Nobody told me. Maybe they thought they’d do that because I’d said in the past that there’s too much chat before the game – that problem has only got worse since! The noise that night though and the supporters were tremendous.' #euro96

@investor_bod Liam Dawson, a spin bowler, has a higher FC batting average than Crawley - and more FC 100s. It is an insult to the English cricket supporters that Rob Key continues to select his best friend’s son.

On the anniversary of Graham Taylor's death, I always think back to this wonderful tribute from Mark Pougatch. He worked with Taylor for years covering England games for BBC radio. 9 years ago, football lost a true gentleman.

Brian Moore was undoubtedly one of the greatest commentators ever. And whenever he shouted ‘’My goodness!’ you knew something big in the match had just happened. Here’s a selection of clips from the 90s, where he used those two words to great effect. 🎙️
