At some point in their careers directors get a demon that visits them in the corner of their bedrooms and tells them “You can make Dr.Strange Love, you’re a genius.” Some are able to fight off this demon, and others, unfortunately get possessed :/

dude it was shot on 35mm, you gotta see it they shot it on vista vision, bro it’s imax 15/70, they used vertical anamorphic lenses, bro they struck a nitrate print, the cameras are literally from the mgm vault, they printed Alexa footage to film and then scanned it, bro 70mm

@_Sheehogue_ @misterminsoo I appreciate what it's doing and can't help but relate (the main character has my name, among other things) but I think it's interesting how no one points out how close its style/tone is to something like EEAO: self-aware genre-pastiche that directly tells you what its message is

@agnstpollution I watched this at the TIFF, it was at this huge concert hall. I was late and I had to sit in the balcony. The sound system was so loud/bad that it made the balcony feel like it was shaking. I got there the first thing I saw was that demon and I felt like I was going to die.

The success of Obsession only shows that simplistic log lines sell well. That’s the only thing actual people ever talk about when they discuss how much they like it. There’s nothing formally different from it than any other modern big blockbuster picture. Easy Rider it is not

The endless analysis of Obsession tells me that younger people treat all media as content. A very straightforward movie might as well be Love Island or a 30 part front facing TikTok story called like “my roommate is catfishing me” or Reddit AITA posts. Same chum same bucket!

@Somun03682911 Blair Witch Project was a formal departure and spawned a sub genre craze. It temporarily influenced productions. It’s also the poster child for online marketing. It is a deeply important picture. Obsession is the jump start to a journey men career. (This is a neutral statement)

@d3athmaskdivine It’s getting culturally compared to Easy Rider due to the lose connection of both being pictures directed by young men that did super well at the box office. Comes up a lot in silly “what does this mean for the future of cinema 🤔” conversations.
