@sightONsound @lthlnkso Sounds like the government is at fault here for distorting market dynamics. Companies would otherwise have to pay more for people to take the job. I agree, the government should stop doing that form of corporate welfare.

@lthlnkso why are you simping for billionaires and totally ignoring the very valid arguments that their wealth status is inseparable from government support (read: the taxpayer) which also allows these companies to pay their employees so little they still require government assistance

"Working hard" is not how you get rich. It's not why people give you money. Hasan doesn't work 20x harder than a teacher, why does he make 20x more? You get money by providing something people want. Hasan entertains people, so they subscribe or donate to him, buy his merchandise etc. Similarly, Bezos got rich by doing something people wanted. Customers want to shop from their phones or laptops and have stuff delivered and people want to rent computers. Those things make Amazon a valuable company. Investors want to own a valuable company so they buy shares of Amazon. Bezos provided a great many people stuff that they wanted. They paid Bezos in exchange. As a result, Bezos has a lot of money. Nobody paid Bezos because they thought he worked super hard. They paid him because he gave them something they wanted more than the money they paid. If I want to have a ditch dug and worker A will use a spoon and B will use an excavator, I am not going to pay worker A more even though it will be much harder work!
Marco Foster@MarcoFoster_

Hasan Piker: “Jeff Bezos is nothing without all the labor that allowed him to become a billionaire. Jeff Bezos was unbelievably and immensely lucky at numerous points in his life. I’m sure he worked hard, but you know who else works hard? A fucking teacher, a nurse. Probably a lot harder than Jeff Bezos ever did”

@Swizec It actually doesn’t. The actual order specifically says dual intent work visas are exempt.

If I had to go home to convert my O-1 genius visa into a greencard, it would completely derail my career. Not even worth applying at that point. The process for a greencard is 1 to 2 years. The O-1 lasts 2 to 3 years. Just say you don’t want high skill immigration
Homeland Security@DHSgov

An alien who is in the U.S. temporarily and wants a Green Card must return to their home country to apply. This policy allows our immigration system to function as the law intended instead of incentivizing loopholes. The era of abusing our nation’s immigration system is over.

This is the biggest brain gain opportunity in Canadian history. There are many extraordinarily talented individuals, pre-vetted on O-1/EB-1A visas, who may not/can not go home due to war, persecution, etc, who will seek safety and security elsewhere. @MarkJCarney pls!

@Prince_M194 @MPelletierCIO It was amazing how many of those problems a massive salary cured for me and many of my friends who left for the US. Absolutely none of us intend to move back.

@MPelletierCIO Standard bank economic reports always blame taxes and wages for "brain drain." But people aren't just line items on a spreadsheet. When you factor in US healthcare costs, safety concerns, and political instability, Canada’s overall quality of life remains an elite retention tool.

TD report on CANADA's BRAIN DRAIN is really interesting. Canada is quietly losing its top talent to the United States in what economists call a silent brain drain. While Canada does a strong job educating highly skilled workers in STEM, engineering, and entrepreneurship, it struggles to keep them due to higher taxes that kick in at much lower income levels, limited opportunities to scale companies, weaker commercialization of ideas, and much better pay and growth potential south of the border. -> Talent leaves mainly through temporary US work visas rather than permanent moves -> Outflows are heavily concentrated among the highest skilled, especially in tech and advanced degrees -> Onward migration is worst among immigrants and top university graduates -> Canada has a missing middle of medium sized firms, relying instead on many tiny businesses and a few large ones -> Personal tax rates often exceed 50 percent in major provinces and apply at much lower thresholds than in the US -> Complex corporate tax rules push entrepreneurs toward tax planning instead of growth All of this weakens productivity, innovation, and domestic returns on education, making Canada a feeder system for the US economy REPORT: economics.td.com/ca-silent-brai…

Look at all the 🇺🇸 trade that's now happening without the Jones Act in effect. And the Jones Act fleet is still fully booked. This is all extra shipping, from Americans to Americans, that's happening just because government got out of the way.

I confronted world famous philosopher, Slavoj Zizek, on why he calls himself a communist when over 100 million people have died as a direct result of communism… He couldn’t provide an understandable answer. Either he is just a lot smarter than me, or this is all nonsense.

@tuuu28283 That is about average, but it varies a lot. Engineers can make 20 million yen in many places. American values engineers much more than Japan, but they pay less for salarymen who are late in their career but only get paid because of their time in the job. Very Japanese problem 😉

@harukaawake I went to a place like this in Italy. Usually, they went to Japan once and loved it, but that’s it. I asked the owner (in Japanese) if he spoke Japanese and he couldn’t understand me. However, Italian style sushi is cool maps.app.goo.gl/oXZjXqVX2tSuMj…

@pirooooon3 In the words of Henry Kissinger, America doesn’t have allies it has interests. You can trust America as far that it is interested in containing China. Therefore, it will stick with Japan as long as it helps it do that. Seems like a good 10 year plan to trust them based on today.

@bscholl That’s awesome. Having a child was the best thing to happen to me and made me more accountable at home and at work. My son is two but I can’t wait for him to grow up to share the world of engineering with him! Kids are the best, and it’s awesome you use this platform to say it 😁

If you're building real things—as an engineer, entrepreneur, technician—consider having more children earlier than you thought. Your children will have the irreplaceable inspiring experience of growing up with parents who do things and make things. More👇

@atoreiyu200001 I live in America and people do this, but we take a very dim view of it. Not normal. I’ve also spent a lot of time in Japan and think it’s even worse to do it there considering the culture of respect you keep for public places.

I want to ask people around the world who are not Japanese. At the restroom near Fushimi Inari Shrine last night — a sacred place — someone left diapers covered in feces and piles of trash in the hand-washing area and just walked away. Is this considered normal behavior where you come from? To whoever did this — what the hell is wrong with you? This isn’t just bad manners — it’s disgusting, disrespectful, and completely unacceptable. This is a place of worship, not a garbage dump. If anyone thinks this kind of behavior is okay, that’s the problem. Clean up your own filth and learn some basic respect. Don’t you all agree?

The left are so dumb they believe that Elon Musk stores his net worth as a big mountain of gold coins like Scrooge McDuck instead of it existing as shares of the companies he owns. This is why they think the wealth isn’t doing anything and is being “hoarded”. Absolute morons.
Grant Melson, CFA@grant_melson

Can’t believe this guy’s goal is to hoard a $10T net worth. I would think with all that wealth, he would use it to help people more. Like ending deaths in car accidents, or providing affordable transport for everyone, or offering internet to isolated people groups or something.

Allow me to rock your world. America has about 6000 hospitals. 5121 of those are publicly accessible and 1224 are completely free. That's twice as many charity hospitals as Canada has Tim Horton's. Literally. Then, when you see a doctor, the doctor speaks English and went to school somewhere you've heard of. Harvard is not the only way to get educated, but it is nice in the fall. We don't push people into medically assisted suicide for cost reasons. We don't ask people with emergency conditions to sit in the ER for 10 hours before they see a doctor. So yes, if you have a cutting-edge disease and you go to a private hospital and get the best care in the world, you're on the hook for it. But note that you are also ALIVE.
Mark Slapinski@mark_slapinski

People say Canadian healthcare is not free, because we pay taxes for it. But in America, people pay taxes and still have to pay for healthcare out of their pockets. And if they are broke, the hospital tells them to go die.
