@koalada18 @arbitrum OK... but what if Arbitrum's security council were to be compromised? What this means is that it would only require a handful of signatures to drain their entire chain and there would be nothing the DAO or anyone else could do about it.

@arbitrum Fast action, real teeth. As an Arbitrum LP user: this is exactly what "governance with boundaries" looks like in practice — emergency powers triggered, law enforcement coordinated, zero impact on other users, and funds now only movable by DAO governance.

Arbitrum
Arbitrum@arbitrum·
The Arbitrum Security Council has taken emergency action to freeze the 30,766 ETH being held in the address on Arbitrum One that is connected to the KelpDAO exploit. The Security Council acted with input from law enforcement as to the exploiter’s identity, and, at all times, weighed its commitment to the security and integrity of the Arbitrum community without impacting any Arbitrum users or applications. After significant technical diligence and deliberation, the Security Council identified and executed a technical approach to move funds to safety without affecting any other chain state or Arbitrum users. As of April 20 11:26pm ET the funds have been successfully transferred to an intermediary frozen wallet. They are no longer accessible to the address that originally held the funds, and can only be moved by further action by Arbitrum governance, which will be coordinated with relevant parties.

@Brandon8ball97 @Cointelegraph Does it matter though? There are already much faster chains than Monad that also support parallel EVM execution (Sonic for example)… and nobody seems to really care. What is it that you think sets Monad apart?

@Cointelegraph I genuinely don't understand this sentiment. Monad is an evm layer 1 with comparable scalability and speed to solana. Basically a solana alternative connected to the best and most tested development stack in crypto.. phantom wallet cam even connect to it..

@btchydra187 @Justin_Bons Sonic's official bridge is an Ethereum rollup and the chain's main purpose is to act as a shared sequencer for Ethereum L2s. I'm a big FTM proponent but their roadmap is fully embraces scaling via L2s and using ETH as the settlement layer.

There is no difference between L1 & L2 fragmentation What matters is the max capacity of a single composable chain! That is why "L2 scaling" is flawed, not because L2s are inherently bad But because it justifies ZERO L1 scaling, that is why BTC & ETH are so uncompetitive now!

Is the assumption that all L1 nodes have to replicate all state? The alternative and better solution IMHO is to have a linearly scalable L1 via sharding where everything is atomicly composable yet nodes don't replicate all state, only the state of the shard they currently validate

on rollups, L1s, interop, safety, censorship resistance: rollups scale better than fast L1s because they can have a smaller replication factor than L1s. less redundancy = more room to go faster due to less communication overhead between block producing nodes. verifying nodes can always up by leveraging the block producers to assist them with verification (e.g. verifiers can do low cost stateless & parallel execution using verkle trees witnesses on L2 and keep up even tho there may only be a few large sequencer machine that can produce blocks) so it's easy to expect that there will be a few extremely fast rollups, where x-rollup interop won't be the main issue, and then there's a long-tail of rollups where interop might be harder yet not matter as much. if you want to interoperate with assets on the L1 (hint, you do) then your system has a bridge where the bridged assets are secured as if they were in the L1. also -- despite the less redundancy, you achieve censorship resistance same as the L1, using it as a slow path if the fast path fails. this is done by making the L1 contain a summary of the L2 state, and enabling the L1 verify claims about the L2 state (e.g. "privileged entity tried to censor my transaction/steal my money, L1 please punish them") interactively w/ the fault proof or non-interactively w/ the ZKP, both techniques which are taking an execution trace, committing to it, and making a bunch of statements against it. then the L1 gets convinced about them by sampling i.e. checking here and there to see if you did the work correctly and punishing you if you didn't. non-surprisingly, Ethereum L1 data availability sharding also works by sampling. this hopefully gives you an intuition on how you can stack a few techniques together to achieve fast systems which are censorship resistant, safe, and do not require a large set of operators coming into consensus, using the L1 as a ground truth court.

I was genuinely surprised the Eigen airdrop received so much negativity, and so I've been wondering why I'm disconnected and trying to consider why. I think it comes down to expectations. Disappointment is the delta between expectations vs reality. There seemed to be three tribes each w/ a different set of expectations. 1) SCAM! SCAM! SCAM! tribe - MOAR $$$$ - Expected to get rich overnight 2) Disappointed tribe - Didn't expect geoblock - Didn't expect locked tokens - Expected large one time drop - no seasons - Expected higher % of supply (e.g. 20%) - Expected higher APY on risked ETH (e.g. 50-150%) 3) Undisappointed tribe - would have only been disappointed if... - If they didn't drop a token - If they didn't do double digital supply to stakers - If the token had not purpose or utility in the network The first tribe is being unreasonable, hard to know what would make them happy. The disappointed tribe 2 is where a lot of reasonable people sit. Their expectations were probably set by a variety of factors, some in the control of the project, some outside it. I was in the 3rd tribe (I expected geoblock, locked tokens, etc.) my expectations for the drop were much lower than others which is why I wasn't disappointed and didn't immediately understand. This says nothing about which set of expectations are right or fair, reasonable or unreasonable - that's a different conversation. But the above has helped me understand the differing opinions at least.

@adamscochran All of this only works when the minimum wage is high enough for individuals to live comfortably. Otherwise we're relying on "trickle-down" economics which we all know doesn't work. Tax cuts for business owners need to be offset by wage increases that start at the bottom.

24/24 We bastardize tax incentives as economic policy designed to help the mega-wealthy. But it doesn't have to be that way. Good, sound, economic policy, can increase wealth for builders while growing the middle class, and increasing economic outcomes for *everyone*

1/24 Exactly. You want to build a middle class? Let founders create good jobs. You can create economic policies that can spur job/wealth creation AND lower taxation, while helping the middle-class instead of megacorps via models like this:
Alex Svanevik 🐧@ASvanevik

Here’s the thing (most) European countries don’t get: Anything that takes founders’ time away from focusing on customers is bad for the economy. Such as: - Paperwork - Bureaucracy - Tax planning - Regulations - Applying for gov grants Government’s job is to get out of the way.
