St Mirren 🐼
5⃣ As Scotland's 5th entrant, St Mirren have the hardest task of reaching the league phases - needing to win 3 ties starting with Conference League QR2
⛔️ As St Mirren haven't been in Europe in the last 5 years, they don't have a club coefficient and so they enter with 20% of Scotland's country coefficient (7.21) for seedings & revenue distribution
🌱 That's enough to see them seeded in ECL QR2 - likely as favourites against the majority of potential opponents
🗺️ There are no official rules on 'regionalisation' in qualifying rounds although it is suspected that UEFA can arrange potential opponents to try and minimise travel - UEFA may form groups of seeded and unseeded teams per the principles set by the Club Competitions Committee
🌎 The below is a map of the regions used in the UEFA cup qualifiers before 2009, that we could use as a very loose guide
⛔️ However there are no strict rules and so don't expect a tie against a UK or Irish based team. For example, Hibs were drawn against the Andorran team last year, while Northern Irish teams have visited Kosovo and Bosnia in recent years
🔁 Should the buddies overcome QR2 as expected, then a tricky tie awaits in QR3 where they would be unseeded
⛰️ The potential opponents are based on the assumption that all of these teams progress from ECL QR1 & QR2 and so this list could differ significantly, but we can see that the range in quality of potential teams - from Copenhagen to Linfield, is quite significant
✅ Progressing from ECL QR3 to the ECL playoff would see St Mirren face their third and final mountain against one of 19 teams - including any from the above teams that progress
5⃣ The most dangerous of the possible playoff opponents would be the entrants from the top 5 leagues (Chelsea🏴, Fiorentina🇮🇹, Real Betis🇪🇸, Heidenheim🇩🇪 & RC Lens🇫🇷)
🤯 Win all three ties and St Mirren will have pulled off one of the biggest achievements by a Scottish team in modern European football & would fully deserve their place amongst the 36 teams in the league phase
✈️ The European adventure starts with the draw on Wednesday 19th June, the day of Scotland's second Euro 2024 match vs Switzerland

@stmirrenretro This is the mural in FC Barcelona Archive Department. Not of a game involving Real Madrid or any other Spanish opponent but St Mirren. @saintmirrenfc@stmirrenretro
On this day 25 May 1922
St Mirren beat Notts County 2-1 to win the Barcelona Cup in the official match to open Barcelona’s new ground
Saints in the dark shirts
Thought that being seeded inevitably meant the second leg would be the home tie, but not according to @scotlandscoeff1.
All depends on the draw.
Those annual leave requests will need to wait til the 19th June when the draw is made!
